Introduction

My name is Pam and I have had type 2 for 36 years. It started with pregnancy, and after my son was born, I lost lots of weight. I was diet controlled. After ten years, I quit smoking and gained 20 pounds. That seemed to get this disease out of control. Went on pills, lost and gained weight....on and on. Well now I am a pumper, and take metformin, three times a day. I am the youngest of 7 and 5 have died from complications, already. So far I am complication free, but need to be more vigilent, as I age. I am excerise resistant! That is what I have to change. I will be reading and learning, Take care and Happy New Year!

Welcome Pam to DF. Like you, I too come from a diabetic family - my maternal grandmother was diabetic (my mother was not diabetic though), and my father was. My oldest sister was (she passed away, as did my parents) and so was her eldest daughter, my niece (she too has sadly passed away due to a diabetic heart attack). My older brother is, so is another older sister. In my case, I really don't know if I am diabetic (in spite of being diagnosed as type 2 diabetic three years ago). Like you, I too was "exercise resistant" but have now taken to exercise like a fish to water. I find that exercise and a mild dose of metformin (which I might eventually come off) keep my blood sugars very normal. I check my blood sugar very frequently.

Regards,
Rad

Welcome Gramela, glad you found the forums! I'm quite "exercise resistant" myself....but it's encouraging to see how much difference even a little makes. Hopefully we'll both become less exercise-resistant this year.

Hi Pam and welcome to Diabetes Forums. I think most people are a bit exercise resistant until you actually find something you enjoy doing daily.

I think I will invest in the wii sport. My son brought a wii sport over and left it for a week and I loved it. Boxing is a workout.

Welcome!
