| | Hello, all I am a Type II diabetic and was first diagnosed 10 years ago. Since then, it's been a constant struggle to figure out how to control my Diabetes. My mother was Type I diabetic and my father was Type II. I am extremely careful with my diet and my exercise and I have lost over 30 pounds in the last two years, but my blood sugar levels are still not stabilized. I have been on Metformin, Avandia, Glucophage, Glucotrol, and I don't know how many other drugs trying to find one that works.
My last A1C was 9+.
I work on a website called Diabetes Library, which is a wonderful project but which really depresses me sometimes as I research and catalog sites for the Diabetes Complications.
I guess that on here, I am looking for other people who understand the ups and downs of this challenging condition. |

| | Hi starmac... welcome, you should definitely find what you are looking for on the forum. I look forward to seeing you around. The website you work on sounds interesting... if it's not an ad or selling something, would you share the url?
I also just wanted to recommend you check out what some of the type II diabetics are saying, as they relate their experience with using insulin to great affect... I'm far from knowledgable about type II meds, but looking into that is what sprung to my mind when you said how the meds were not doing the trick...
Again, welcome

Tell us a little more about how you are managing your diabetes at the moment. Are you currently on any meds, how often do you test? What kind of foods do you eat and which do you avoid?

| | | Hello and welcome to DF! Have you had a C-peptide done to determine your insulin level? Or did your Dr automatically assume that since you are an adult you "must" be T2 since T1 is juvenile diabetes? T1 can happen to adults as well. I recommend getting some tests done to see where you are at.
Also what is your diet or food plan like? Have you cut back on the carbs? Breads, rice, pasta, and potatoes are all forms of high levels of carbs. |

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter. Buddy 7 Essex uk |

| | | Hi and welcome!!!
I can relate to your situation; my mother was also a Type I diabetic, passed away from complicatons of diabetes.
I have been diabetic for some 15+ years (not including the gestational diabetes 20 years ago) and also went through the entire litany of diabetic treatments used for Type II diabetics. They work for a while, then eventually another med needs to be added or adjusted.
I started insulin therapy about three months ago and it's been the BEST THING I have ever done! My control is excellent now, I'm seeing BG numbers I have not seen since my pre-diabetic days.
Another factor contributing to my success is the advice and support from the folks on this site. They are wonderful.
Again, welcome and be sure to pose your questions and offer your experiences to the forum!
