Hi from Gibby ( newly diagnosed as type 1 ).

Hi folks Im Gibby, I was diagnosed as t1 last Monday. I was admitted to hospital with ketone levels of 4 and bm of 18. I had been feeling very lethargic and run down for around 5 weeks, basicaly showing all the symptoms. Since I got home ive been trawling the net researching my condition and im now starting to understand the way this disease works, just lol.

I am managing to stay between 4 and 11, in saying that I have dipped to 3 a couple of times and felt mild hypo symptoms. I am looking upon this as a challenge. So I look forward to sharing experiences with all of you, after all were in the one boat here.

Hello and Welcome to DF Gibby

What information/instructions did your Dr. give you?.

Are you on MDI's or a pump? What type of insulin do you use?

Tell us a little more about yourself, and with that info, we here, will be more that willing to help answer any questions you may have....

Welcome gibby,

I too was diagnosed about the same time ago with similar readings,.. Luckily I hadn't felt bad except for the last few days leading up to hospital and lots of water consumption prior to that.

What medication are you on?

I recently discovered this forum and in no time at all I had all of my questions answered and received advice that my doctor wouldn't even know about.. I believe you have found a great resource here.

Best wishes

Hi Danny, My doctor and diabetic nurse told me the basics, stay away from the sweets and watch the carbs. Im in rather a good position as I work in a hospital and all my clinics are there too. Im on 10 of novorapid with each meal and 14 of levimier for my night time jab. My diet at the moment consists of serial with banana in the morning, toasted brown bread (low GI) with sardines/mackeral/beans for lunch. I am struggeling a little with my evening meals and sometimes feel my levels are too high post meal. I dont know if its too early to start adjusting my novorapid to counter act the glocouse levels. I dont see my consultant for another 2 weeks so Im a little concerned.
