Bruising

Hi,

I am newly diabetic and not sure if it is related or not but have notice I am getting alot of bad bruises all over my legs, most of them Im not sure how I got them. Does this have anything to do with diabetes???

Hi Ash and Welcome to DF!

I have found with Diabetes that yes indeed I do bruise a little easier AND the bruises (or cuts or whatever) take much longer to heal up than previously BUT I am also not a young as I once was and it may be something unrelated to the D so be sure to talk to your Doctor about it

When I first become diabetic every simple everything left me black and blue but when I finally got under control I don't really have this issue anymore. Even healing is quicker however I am more careful with cleaning and wound care.

Yep, same here. It seems that worse glycemic control will compromise a lot of those kinds of bodily functions. When I had worse control, A1cs in 7s and a lot of fluctuation, I had a lot more bruising, less circulation, tendency for infection to be much worse, nerves compromised. That's not going into energy and mental side effects I find with high BGs.

Better control has much improved these issues. They have not necessarily all completely gone away (then again I would hardly say I have "perfect" control by a long, long stretch). Seeing improvement can take a bit of time. If you gain lasting better control at some stage, I would suggest it might take some months to adapt and to really notice all the differences/improvements. The act of adjusting down can be quite uncomfortable to the body as well, for a time.
