Hello, I'm new...

I just found out I am diabetic last month. Its really bittersweet since my dad died last October at the age of 62 from diabetic complications. He really didn't take care of it and ended up losing his leg, most of his eyesight and had kidney failure. By the end he was on dialysis 3 times a week. Anyway, I have seen what can happen if you don't take care of it and I'm trying to not turn out the same way.

Welcome Mrose75.
I'm sorry about your dad & for you to get diagnosed with D as well. I believe we have a better chance of quality of life then perhaps your dad & many others had. Just being a diligent part of this online community is a fabulous means of control. You will get support & advice from many on a similar journey.
Test as often as you can & eat according to your meter if you have one yet.
Have you been given your A1C?

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter.
