Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but I am a newcomer who is Type2 and has a familial history of same. I sat in the "pre-diabetes" zone for several years, finding it difficult to take of the 20 pounds that would have probably improved my condition dramatically. You see, I have several forms of inflammatory, autoimmune arthritis, which makes exercise difficult [although I do walk for 30 minutes every day, pain or no pain].
My glucose and A1C numbers were slowly inching up so my endocrinologist put me on Metformin, which really didn't help all that much - but again, my glucose wasn't that bad to start with [was usually around 90-95 in the AM].
Problems with myalgia began and I weaned off Metformin, determined to somehow exercise more. I went into "arthritis flare" mode and had to have a number of Kenalog [cortisone shots in the joints], which boosted the glucose readings.
Nowadays, still somewhat inflamed with the arthritis, my glucose numbers in the morning range anywhere between 105-135. I track my calories and carbs and I rarely eat more than 1300 calories and 180 carbs daily. My A1C, last checked two months ago, was at 6.1, the first time ever that I was over 6.0.
I have my quarterly appointment with my endocrinologist next week and I expect we'll be talking about trying another drug. I really hate to do this, given all the drugs I take for the arthritis, but as time marches on I can see that the diabetes needs help.
Looking forward to learning from everyone.

Hi CALynn and welcome. I bet many of us can learn from you.
To be honest those numbers are not the end of the world in my uneducated opinion. Maybe a few more calories and fewer carbs might help out. Please keep us informed of your situation and what remedies you apply.
Hi, Ramon,
What bothers me is that they are worsening. There seems to be a link, too, between inflammatory arthritis and diabetes, with the end result of boosting glucose numbers.
But you're right - my numbers aren't that shabby.
I've got two problems: I don't cook and travel too much [on business] which means that I either eat a lot of processed food or [when traveling] I'm pushing food around on my plate, wanting to eat it all, but......
Trip to the endo-doc next week should get some answers as to the next step. Meanwhile I need to get familiar with a glycemic index.
Thanks for your help!
Hi CALynn & Welcome!
Glad to have you with us.

Hi, CALynn, and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have lots of beasts to battle along with the D-dragon. I hope things work out for you and your struggle with the arthritis and myalgia as well as diabetes. I have heard somewhere that the inflammatory process is the very beginning of all types of diabetes, but I can't quite remember where.
