Happy to post my 1st post...I'd like to hear from other type1 diabetics to discuss issues and successes experienced. Diabetes does not keep me from doing all that I want to do. I control it rather than letting it control me. Having lived with it for most of my life it has become my uninvited companion. It is all I know. Post me a thought, a comment or a question. I'd really like to connect with more folks who walk in the same shoes I walk in.

The secret to my success is being on a pump and carb counting. I bolus(insulin blast) 1 unit of novolog for every 15 grams of carbs. As far as eating goes...I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and try to work as much fiber into my diet as possible. That diet, along with MANY blood sugars per day keeps me in tight control.

Hello incontrol, thanks for introducing yourself here. You are eligible for the Joslin medal, given to Type 1's with 50 or more years of insulin dependancy. Have you applied for a medal? If not, there is a stickey at the top of the "Chit Chat" forum that tells you how to apply. (I wish that stickey was in the Type 1 forum.)
If you get a medal then you will be invited to participate in the Joslin Medalist Study, with travel and lodging paid by Joslin. I have been Type 1 for 64 years and I am very healthy. I am a medalist and have particiated in the Joslin Study (Nov 30, 2009). It is a very good project and they need more participants. I have pumped for 30 months and I love it, I'm sure you do too.
Welcome aboard!
Richard
