Dear Friends
I am diabetic, which is a hard word to say, but denial is not a good option. I'm on no medications and have chosen thus far to self treat with exercise, weight loss, and diet.
While I have had some success, I'm not cured. I have a battle on the eating thing. Exercise I can get done in any amount I choose, so that is no problem for me. But, controlling my eating presents a constant and terrifying problem.
I control it to the extent that I eat the right things, for the most part, but still I eat too much for my own good. I'm about 20 pounds too heavy even though I have lost 20 or 30. I'm at a plateau, and can't seem to drop the additional 20 pounds, no matter how I try.
When I don't eat for 24 hours or so, I feel great and my stats are all good, but then I start to eat again, and I overdo it just enough to block my progress. That is where I am stuck right now.
I'm always looking for added helps.
When I eat too much I don't sleep well, and then I don't feel well, and eat to feel better, so eating starts a vicious cycle that feeds on itself.
So now you know my whole life. I am willing to help others and know I need help myself as well. Of course I have lots of ideas on how to deal with this disease, but, clearly I don't know how to help myself where I need it.
BTW, I'm not sure I know what a Trackback is.

Welcome! I totally understand about the eating thing. After both my last 2 pregnancies, I had a hard time not eating too much. There always seems to be a few residual pounds that I can never seem to shed, but I really want to try to get back to a "normal" weight. Just keep on keepin' on!

I know the feeling! If I don't start eatin, I'm fine.. but once I get started, hide everything, or I'm gonna eat it.
It sucks.
Sorry that I can't eat any advice beyond what you're already doing. Good luck to you, though.

That does seem to be the common problem. For me, I try doing two things that have worked pretty well.
1) Measure my food at meals. That way I'm not filling the plate based on my level of hunger.
2) Drink a large glass of water after the meal to give me a full feeling.
I have discovered that I don't have an off switch that tells me when I'm full, or rather the off switch is delayed by an hour or so. If I can hold off for an hour, I usually am fine and don't need anything else.

Hi. Welcome.
OK, here's an idea for you... Since you're OK with eating the right things but bummed about eating too much, try this: Eat the right amount of healthy foods, then as soon as you've hit the right amount - switch to celery only.
I've heard that celery actually takes more energy to digest than it provides. If true then a) you get all the correct nutrition from your 'base' diet, b) you get to eat all you care to, and c) the 'extra' celery will help burn off those extra pounds over time.

Thank you all for the Warm Welcome
I want to thank all those who make this site possible. I wish in had known earlier.
The way I found you guys was by Googling Milagro de la Selva Tea that was discussed on a thread here, and hence picked up by Google, (God Bless them,) and that is how people learn about this site, or that is how I learned.
I feel so at home here because we all have a common purpose, which steers things. I hope to add what I can over time, and learn a lot.
The things you all suggested are all good, but doing them is the thing.Sometimes I feel I need a constant nurse. Any volunteers? Just kidding, but it is true we are a social animal and work best in groups, WHICH THIS IS....
The Celery thing is definitely good, but again, the Will. But thanks evermont...
raffi: You said, Measure, Water, and Time are what you recommend, and you are totally right....Those three are great...
RobinP: Good to know somebody is...
jer: You got me. Honestly, I think about all this a lot, and I think... that fasting is one way to go. I know the downsides for some people and they should be careful, but in some cases, like maybe mine, It seems to work WHEN I do it. I mean a 24 hour one day and two nights once or even twice a week can get results. I do it and seem to have no side effects, but again, it wholly depends on your case. I'm only talking about maybe... people with my level of bs.
Jenny: We have to do it IMO. Weight alone seems to fuel and awful lot. I think it is job one, unless a doctor or whatever nixes it. My best guess is we all need to start there, and then move to other things.
Bear with me while I learn this site apparat system. Right now I need to select this thread and make sure your posts get to me via email notice. Working together is our best chance of dealing with this disease.
Again thank you all for being here for me AND OTHERS...

Hi Founder, Welcome to the Forum. Are you Type 1 or Type 2 - What is your Body Mass Index. In otherwords, how important is it that you lose weight. You have done well. And I like the idea of eating or drinking something which will not add weight (maybe even grilled chicked on a salad - no dressing - protein only). It may help to read "Diabetes Solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein - there is a section about weight loss - understanding the relationship between fat, carbs, and protein in the body may help you focus on eating foods which have little effect on weight.
Those plateaus are difficult to restart and they tend to get comfortable.
Also, I don't think cure is an option either.
If I didn't eat for 24 hours, I would probably eat the kitchen counter trying to find food! Ha!
Again, Welcome the Forum, Best Wishes, Larry

I'm type 2, and doing better in some ways, I don't know my BMI but it is pretty good cause I work with weights and work at adding muscle mass all the time, but still the fat hangs in there and I know it hurts me in all kinds of ways. The worst thing is the overeating resulting in poor sleep which then triggers eating fatigue etc. But thanks for your kind words. Yea, I eat the chicken breast and so forth and then go right on snacking on nuts crackers and so forth till I over do then all heck is to pay. It scares me when I, in effect, binge. Even though it is not a lot, it is a lot for me, and that is the way we have to measure. Each person is such an individual, yet we do have so much in common as well. Thanks. I work every day with body maintenance. Yoga, stretching, weights, machines, walking, swimming, biking and so forth. We all need a good total of 2 solid hours a day of strenuous exercise, no less IMO. It is the price we have to pay for best health the way I see it. Yes, any is good, but a min of 2 hours is best.

Welcome to the forum, Founder.
Glad to have you with us.
It seems you're already eating healthy and you're getting in plenty of exercise, so try eating 6 small low carb meals a day and snacking on nuts, veggies & fruit in between.

Thank you Karen, for taking the time to greet me. I try to do as you recommend, but am not able to do it to get the results I want.
I'm trying to, in effect, fast, a bit. One thing is, we are all different in so many ways that I think people need to try a lot of things to find that which works best for them.
In general, I am a fan of fasting, and have studied it some. You know, all life on earth has, and does, fast all the time. Mostly, I admit, because of sporadic food supplies, but they fast none the less.
The Bible, for those who believe it, recommends fasting numerous times. My own thought is that, for health, mental and physical and to cure diseases, humans ideally should fast one or so days a week, and maybe something like one week a month, and one month a year.
Now these are just very rough estimates, but I have seen this practices with good results of all sorts.
This is, of course, excepting, those who have health problems whose care giver tells them not to fast.
I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here, but those are just my opinions and researches. Thanks for your kind attention.

Hi Founder, no of coarse not, Evermont is just giving you and us a link to fasting, that's all. He always helps us this way to get different opinions. You will like him once you know him and the other members on this forum cause we are all in the same boat together. If you are like me I will never be satisfied with my meals unless I eat meat. If I don't eat meat with my meals I will stay hungry. You could try a over the counter appetite suppressant or in my case the doc started me on metformin and now food has no interest at all. Now I find something to snack on cause I know I need it, not because I get hungry. Anyway glad you are here and look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the clarification
I guess I took it wrong. Sorry bout that.
I'm going to have to go back to my doctor now, and how I hate it, to get an up to date evaluation.
Initially they did give me a prescrip for Meta, but I discontinued it when I didn't notice much improvement.
I'm willing to try anything, but I know that at root I need caloric reduction some kind of way.
Right now I am in a mode of reduction, and feel better the last two days of this. I'm eating good stuff, but just a lot less of it.
The restriction is freaking me out just a bit. I don't want to be a whiner, but it is just the facts. Food is so integral to our mind that it is hard to separate it out.
In my case I have raised the exercise and quality of food to just about as high as they can go, now it is just pure reduction of total calories and how to do that preoccupies me. The key, as in all things, is to never give up, as Churchill said. And I am not, with all you guys help. Thank you.
