| | | noobee (to Lantus) hi everyone! I just started using Lantus after 15 years of oral meds & diet. I'm 61 yrs young and a hotrod enthusiast.
I'm still trying to adjust to Lantus (this evening, I dropped to 43 on my Accu Check Compact)
Looking forward to learning tips & tricks from you folks. I do a fair amount of air travel .

| | Hi Richard,
Welcome to the group! Out of curiosity, what part of Kansas are you from? The reason I ask, is that a friend of mine (Carwy) is from Kansas also. Glad you've found us, and hope you'll post often. There are many helpful and friendly folks here, so you're in good company.

| | | Hello and welcome Richard! I'm T1, been on Lantus now for about 3 years. Too much or too little of the stuff can really throw you for a loop. It may take you a while to find the right dose, but once you do I'm sure you'll do very well (took me the better part of the first year) testing more often will help you avoid those lows. Lantus beats the heck out of Nph and the like. This is a great board w/ a lot of really great folks so I hope you'll visit often!
Nice to meet you,
HeatherP

| | Thanks for the replies everyone!
Dewey: I live in Overland Park KS which and am about 2 miles from the Missouri state line.
HeatherP: Wow, you are right about being thrown for a loop! I think the oral med dosage I'm taking (Glyburide-Metform) might be too high with Lantus. Maybe my Dr needs to reduce the dosage by half to level me out. I'm on a treadmill twice a day for cardio workout and following that is when the level drops. Obviously, 43 is almost "pass out city" for me anyway...not good.
Talk to you folks later. I'll lurk around the forums for subjects.

| | | Hi Richard B and Welcome to the forums. Adjusting your insulin dosage would give you a more immediate response, or maybe splitting your insulin dosage to two shots a day would help. Don't be afraid to experiment, but check with your doctor before changing your oral meds. Speaking of oral meds, once you have adjusted to the lantus you might consult with your doctor about changing your oral combo. Our bodies do become accustomed to meds and we eventually need to up our dosage or change meds every several to few years.
BTW I used to live on State Line Rd on the Misary side farther north up the hill from SouthWest Blvd, and worked in Olathe.
