It's been a few months....

I haven't posted any threads since my original post back in october, but I am learning more about the disease every day, and hopefully I can be more of a contributor to other threads as we move forward.

I did want to update the group with my most recent test results, but before I do that, I would like to provide a quick recap of my history.

I am 34 years old, in excellent physical condition, and have never had any health issues. I had a general physical back in march of 05, and my fasting glucose came back at 105...physician recommended an A1c, which came back at 6.8, at which point I was put in the hands of an endocrinologist. She ran a c-peptide at that time which came in at 1.3, and she told me to modify my diet a bit and to see what happened after time. She termed me a type 1.5 diabetic....

Fast forward to my last tests in december...fasting glucose still 105, A1c at 6.9, but my c-peptide came in at .6 (under .5 is considered abnormal). I am confused, as I have all but eliminated most carbs from my diet, and things seem to be under control without medication, yet I seem to be producing less insulin...Since insulin is produced and released in response to glucose, is it possible that my dietary adjustments would also result in less nsulin production? Should I be looking at a medication that would stimulate more insuklin production? I would like to explore all of my options, and see what I can do to preserve my insukin production for as long as possible.

Thanks in advance for all that read and respond to this post. Hopefully I will feel confident enough to return the favor.

Hi Dboy And Welcome Back. You have already contributed by
posting back and telling us what's happening with you. Thanks.
Unfortunately I can't help you much since I was dxd. at age 3,
so I had NO thoughts about preserving Insulin. "I think" that Type 2's
can take pills to stimulate the pancreas to produce more Insulin but in
turn that exhausts the cells faster. In a "normal" person enough Insulin is sent out to compensate for foods eaten. You are not quite"normal". Pardon the pun. Don't forget, most things in life effect Diabetics. There are a few Type 1.5's on here, Rzr being one of them. I KNOW they will be more helpful.
I just wanted to say, WELCOME BACK and I hope things turn out Very Well for you.
