Question arobertson

Hi! I'm new to the forum and have high blood pressure (clonidine) High cholestrol (lipitor 20mg and provachol 20 mg) and type 2 diabetes (metaformin 500mg twice a day) I find it hard to eat right since foods that are o.k for one condition works bad on another. Does anyone have any suggestions for foods and drinks that work for all. Is orange juice bad for diabetes?

Hello Arobertson and welcome to our family.
+ Everyone reacts differently to different foods, I use orange juice to bring me up if I am very low as it works quickly on me. I understand about the diet, I need to be careful because of other medical conditions too, but you can enjoy most foods in the right proportions. Have you been to see a dietician, yet? That would be the best way to decide what is a good starting point for you.

Thanks Penny! No I have not asked anyone about what to eat. I guess I should do that. My problem is, I eat too much at one time even of the good things. I know this is a 'no no' but I guess I am in a rut. Hard to break old habits. I have always watched what I ate, so eating several times a day is really hard for me to get used to.

Hello arobertson: I hope that you are feeling half ways decent or good would be better. I'm sorry I only have to worry about foods that effect Diabetes and of course too much salt is good for no one. Orange juice
does shoot my sugar up also so I only use it for low blood sugar usually.
You could place a question about different foods for different problems in the Diet section. Maybe someone else has the same problem. Glad to see
you hear.

Hey there Albertson....
Yes OJ is something a lot of us use to recover from a low blood sugar. You might want to look into this along with food coices that suit you best

Hi and welcome!

Yes, I think many of us understand how difficult it is to make good food choices. In fact, I truly believe that diet is the hardest part to managing this disease. It's hard to find the balance of eating and enjoying foods in moderation without overdoing it. You might want to consider seeing a registered dietician...he or she can be very helpful iin answering your questions and helping you make good choices. Also you might want to check out the American Diabetes Association websitel- they have some really good info on diet there too.

I wish you the best and I hope to see you around
