Went to my Pre Op Assessment this morning... It was great. Fabulous even!

Diabetes care is included. I have met with a nurse, a physio and a diabetic nurse. I took with me my diabetic booklet which was very useful. I feel much better now. I'm in good hands. During my hospital stay a dietician will pop in to see me as well. Levels I must achieve have to be under 7 mmol/L throughout recovery (8 to 10 weeks). I must expect BG to be all over the place the first few days after surgery. A team will be there to help me sort this little problem out.

I am simply amazed. I was made to feel that yes, I have diabetes... but it's certainly not the end of the world, that I am in good hands, a team will look after me, and everything will be fine. And I must do my part too! :eating:

Going under the knife May 30th. Next Tuesday. (ack)

Hope it all goes well for you. I've only had surgery once and that's one more time than I would like, although I will try to have my nose fixed again if I can ever afford it (not likely). It's AWFULLY cold in that terrible "gown" they give you to wear. Don't know why I had to wear the stupid thing since they were operating on MY FACE!!! Guess it was better than being naked but not much. When I woke up in the recovery room, it was kind of unpleasant. I was trying so hard to wake up and I could hear the girl in the bed beside me crying and the nurses talking about the girl that died in one of the beds the day before. A very tragic thing, yes, but not something those just coming out of surgery need to hear. (She died as a result of the terrible injury she had so you don't need to worry.) I can't recall what the pain was like after surgery. I don't think it was as bad as I expected, although I bled enough to feed a LARGE group of vampires. I'm hoping for the best for you. Ask them for a warmed towel while you're still awake 'cause it is a tad nippy in the operating room and I found it did help keep me a bit more comfortable.

Wishing you well. I had a hyst 30+ years ago - wasn't diabetic back then - and have absolutely no regrets.

I promise, you won't miss it a bit.

Thank you for the support everyone! I really appreciate it! :)

I'm ready! Leaving for the hospital around 10 am (in about 3 1/2 hours). Sugars this morning : 6.8 mmol/L and I am pleased. Fasting sugars were running a bit higher lately. I slept better last night than I did the night before. Strange, isn't it? I am not scared. Not nervous. Can't wait to get rid of that stupid fibroid and get on with our move to Canada!!!!!! :dancing:

When I come back will tell you more about the 'diabetes care' I had in hospital. I am supposed to have a 'diabetic diet' too. Can't wait to see what it will be exactly. Dietician will pop in to see me during the week. Usually women leave on the Saturday but because I have diabetes I will stay until Sunday apparently.

See you sometime next week! Take good care now.
