Hello!!!

My name is Marie and I have had type 2 diabetes for 5 years, managed by oral meds. Last week, my doc put me on insulin, as my numbers would not come back under control. The problem I am having is when I give myself the shot in my stomach, I am experiencing alot of pain some time after I give the injection. I have no problem with the injection, actually was surprised at how little I felt the needle. It's afterwards, that I start getting sharp pains in the injection site. It has gotten so severe, that I have taken Ibuprofen to help with the pain, with little sucess. My question is this... is it normal to feel this kind of pain after? Is there anything you can do to minimize this pain? I can deal with the pain as long as I know it is normal, but I am worried I am doing something wrong, or that something is wrong. Any help or suggestions you can give is greatly appreciated.

Nope, not normal. What kind of insulin do you take? How much? What type of syringes?

Hi Marie and Welcome to The Forums.

Gee, I've had needles most of my life. I have had the occasional slight pain but I've never once taken a pain-killer for any Insulin injections. Maybe you gave it too close to the belly button area?? I sure hope that you have better luck in the future. :)

Try warming your insulin. And try moving the injection site. Move above or below the belly button line and stay at least a few inches from it. Try to stay above the waistline so your clothes don't irritate the injection site. Also make sure to use the short needles (B&D UltraFine II Short).
