Many doctors use charts to define your risk of heart disease if you look at
http://www.diabetes.org.uk/infocentre/inform/downloads/riskchrt.pdf In my own case with cholesterol 7.0mmol/l (273mg/dl) HDL 1.5 (58.5) BP 128/82 though the total cholesterol is high (and at one point my doctor has discussed statins) the chart cited by Helen indicates the lowest CHD risk for my age, even with diabetes.
I didn't know that is the way it's calcuated.
It's nice to have some good news, thought I'd share it for those for whom it might also be welcome (again at the risk of stating the obvious to those here).
