Hi I have had diabetes type 1 for 26 years now and it reallt annoys me that when my blood sugar is low my mood just instantly changes and I become a moody snappy woman suffering from PMT and it's just not me!-

Does anyone know why this is or if they have the same change in personnality?

It's a standard hypo symptom. When you have a hypo, your brain realises it's in trouble and starts to panic slightly, and then orders a bucketload of adrenaline. It makes you like a loaded gun.

Basically when you have a hypo you're under a lot of stress - so no wonder you get snappy!

And for women it just gives them another time of the month to get mad besides PMS. And for men, it gives us a reason to act like we have PMS.

It happens to us all. And the same thing can happen when you are running high too in a sense. Except you are low on adrenaline and just loose your patience.

Yes. I don't have hypo symptoms anymore but when I find myself yelling at my cat, and I end up dropping things and cursing my head off, my BG is low. Any little thing that goes wrong can set me off. As soon as I bring my BG up I return to normal.

It's great to know i'm not the only one. How my partner puts up with it I will never know, good job it doesn't happen that often.

I have been more prone to anger generally since becoming diabetic but I suppose I have more to be angry about. I do need to keep a lid on it as much as possible though.

Don't we all. I have the hardest time keeping a lid on it when I'm high. I get really grumpy. It's best if I just get out by myself. A long walk would be great, but I'm usually too tired and mean. When I'm low it usually doesn't show as much. Here I am again, finding out I'm an individual in it all. My husband deserves a medal.

lol I love all of the respoinses. they hit close to home. ;) I get super crabby when low too. One time I punched my partner. Good thing I was too out of it to hit hard. she just laughed at me and told me to drink my juice which made me even madder....

that being said I'm not as bad as my mom was. She was type 1 and bit my dad on the thumb when she was low once. He had to get stitches and said the worst part was the orange juice spilling into it because she had a mouthful! lol go momma!

I cry when low and get argumentative when high. When I'm high, it's best for me to get away from people. LOL

The Same here too... once my sugar went low and I was under a lot of stress from my boss and I yelled at him then I dropped :vollkomme … good thing he didn’t fire my ***… lol… not many people knows what you’re going through and they tend to think of you as a moody person and laying all of your anger at diabetes while it doesn’t have any thing to do with you’re attitudes… :(

My roommate noticed that I growl when I am low. I get easily frustrated and will growl if, for example, I have trouble getting the lid off of a jar or something. She has trained me to accept that if I growl, I am low. It has actually helped me a few times while at work to recognize a low that I would have worked through.

I am also always unreasonable and generally unwilling to admit to being low, to test or to take juice. In response, instead of asking me if I am low, she now says, "I think you are 3.2" which then prompts me to test to prove her wrong--she is usually more accurate than I am. She can also see the sudden drops and will call a low, but when I test, I will at that time be in the normal range and then thirty minutes later, be low.

She is leaving Japan soon and I am going to have to learn to cope without her. Gosh.

oh, I become a supreme Bag when I'll low. I snap easy, and have to really be careful around my daughter, because I loose patience with her easily. She can sense I am getting low before I do, and starts to get upset. (shes four).

I get a few moments of exaustion, then its like instant road rage. very scary.
