I don't even know whether this is related to Diabetes or not, but here goes....lately whenever I feel cold, whether it's inside the house or in the time elaspsed in the open, while getting to my car in the parking lot, my back has starting hurting a lot. The pain is concentrated in the small of my back.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?
PS My BS levels are pretty much under control all the time....nothing abnormal there.

Sorry to hear you're in pain. I don't know if it's related or not. I have always gotten bone pain when cold air is aimed at my forearms or shins (like in the car). Nobody's been able to explain it to me. I hope you can find a reason and some treatment for it!

Hi Heather, and thanks for your warm reply :)
I hope to find an answer to this soon, and once I do, I'll be sure to post it here to share with everybody. I'm only hoping that it's not the beginning of anything serious like osteopetrosis (I'm only 24 yrs old, so I'm doubtful that would be the case).
Ah well....another day, another problem

I can get pretty nasty pain at the base of the spine at times too. I feel like it probably isn't related to the diabetes because I injured it in the early 70's. It does feel like the pain could be coming from the kidneys at times though and that probably is related to the diabetes.

My last microalbuminuria tests were normal. Is that a dependable indication of how well (or not) my kidneys are doing? I'm really worried now that my kidneys may have been damaged with my taking my Diabetes for granted for the past 10 years...:(

I'm no expert but I would guess as long as the microalbuminuria tests are okay that you shouldn't have anything to worry about. However, if you're interested, I've been told that Monopril is good at reducing kidney complications due to diabetes so perhaps you might want to ask your doctor about taking that or a similar drug as a precaution.

Monopril, diovan...all ace inhibitors good for the kidneys. What I understand this does is that it is a blood pressure medx. and if you top number is more thatn 130 then you should ask your doctor about them. I have taken both but was taken off because my BP at sitting is hovering around 125 but when I stand it drops to 95 or below..go figure...my doc said "Great your one of those!" I told him it was just another obstacle to deal with when he deals with me! LOL
