Well, frankly I don't know what the ****'s going on.

Before my evening meal, I tested at 7.5. I had my usual amount of insulin relative to the meal - 18u Novorapid.

I then tested 2 hours later because I wasn't feeling good. No wonder - it turns out I was running at 21.1!

I then panicked somewhat and jabbed 10u of Novorapid into my leg. I've just tested now (2 hours later) and my BG has hardly shifted, down to 15.6.

Bear in mind I added something like half a meals' worth of insulin IN ADDITION to my original dose. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary today, so now I'm just utterly baffled. 1u as a comp bolus should lower me by 2mmol/l so by rights I should be running at about 1.1 right now.

I've just jabbed another 10u into my left tricep and I'm seriously contemplating jacking another ten in the other arm.

DEUS, DO NOT INJECT ANYMORE INSULIN FOR NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check again and go from there. You could possibly "stack" your insulin and that will cause MAJOR problems later.
I'm just worried and concerned now. Please be careful.

Bit late now, got another 5u going walkies in my left arm.

Still, dropped down to 13.0 so it's on the right track. Guess I'll keep the Lucozade right next to the bed, it's going to be an interesting night!

Yikes! Just be careful (as Cin said)....I do this too, sometimes. Not saying it's good or ok, but I too get frustrated when my sugar rises like that....and will sometimes (ok, often :hmpf: ) over correct. If you can, maybe set an alarm to check every so often....or, maybe stay up late to watch a movie or play a game? Hmmm, anyone else got some good ideas??

Make sure your meter is not malfunctioning as I learned a couple weeks ago and many units of insulin later that the code was wrong and I was actually within normal range and now had to worry about the almost 20 units I just injected..

my guess would be your insulin is having issues...maybe bad or something wrong with it?

Or maybe there was a problem with the injection? Faulty needle? Leaky pen? etc.

Also, at 21.1, I bet insulin resistance has kicked in pretty bad. So if you need 1 u to lower bsl from 8 to 6, you might need a lot more to go from 21.1 to 19.1. That's how it works for me anyway.

Did you eat unusually late or have an unusually early lunch or do anything that might have caused your liver to start dumping before dinner? That would push up your insulin resistance a treat. Great care is needed injecting extra, I find any insulin resistance tends to wear off before the insulin does. Hope you're ok now.

Sounds like a rough ride. I hope you are fine now, so much insulin in your system last night it's scary. Let us know you are ok, we are worried about you buddy.

How are you this morning, Deus?

Well, I found out exactly why I was having BG issues last night. At around midnight I of course had a massive hypo, treated it and then went back to bed. I then woke up about 6ish in absolute agony - it felt like someone had punched me with a hammer right above my stomach and I spent an hour curled up like a foetus.

Then about 7ish I realised I was phenomenally thirsty, so I gulped down some water. It turned out that was big mistake because about five minutes later I threw it straight back up and then pretty much didn't stop. My BG was through the roof and I knew there was no way I was going to work today.

Then at 9ish, for the first time ever since diagnosis, I found I had ketones - not a massive amount, around 3mmol/l. I then may have panicked somewhat. I was also throwing up ever five minutes or so - you can imagine how that feels on an empty stomach.

I got down to the doctor who was simply brilliant. She told me my symtoms (severe nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, ketones, and flu-like aches) could mean three things for me - either I was in DKA, the tablets I'm on for my FNA had caused liver failure, or I had good old-fashioned food poisoning.

Thank god it appears to be food poisoning. She gave me some anti-vomiting tabs so I could actually drink something (now that cleared the ketones straight off) and now I feel severely 'off', but a **** of a lot better than I did this morning. My BG still isn't 'good' (9mmol/l at last time of checking) but it's a lot better, and I'm just glad I'm not in hospital, because it was bit touch-and-go this morning.

Thanks to everyone for your concern - it's great to know that people do care.

Glad to see you're a-ok, Deus, and that you got to the root of the issue. Hang in there & hope you get to feeling better quickly.

Glad to hear you're "okay". I can fully sympathise as I'm just about getting over a tummy bug myself & my bs have been stupid.

I'm glad to hear it is food poisoning and not something more serious. It's scary when someone types "I just injected 2 million units of rapid insulin, I'm going to bed". I hope you'll feel much better really soon.

Given what you've been through, that 9 sounds pretty good to me! Glad you're on the mend.

So glad it's "only" food poisoning, and you escaped a hospital visit.
Hope you feel better soon! :flowers:
