I know this can be a crazy thing to say for some people, but I wasn't over weight in the first place. Now, watching my diet for my T2, I am losing weight continually. I am 5'10" and weighted 163 when I was diagnosed (07/2005), now I am 143, the 20 lb I lost get me to underweight. I hate it; I want at least to be in the 150s. Around the first 6 months of my diagnosed time, I was strict everything including meat & milk products, but now when I post my concern of my weight in this forum, some suggested to eat meat and I do, however instead of gaining I am continuously losing weight.

You need to eat foods with calories to gain weight. And calorie high foods unfortunately have lots of carbs in them generally. And I know T2's are suppose to watch their carb intake, so it's a tough one. I really wish I could help you more, maybe try finding items high in calories, but low in carbs.

I lost about 20 pounds when I had the overactive thyroid. Is it possible you have something like that?

I know this is a real issuee for you, but some of us are a little envious ..

I don't know if I can help... I know you said that you are eating more protein, but are you substituting that for other foods or are you eating that in addition to what you have originally been eating? If this is the case, I could see how that you would lose weight... a lot of proteins are relatively low in calories and you may be replacing something with more calories with something with less.

I would suggest seeing a dietician, she can work on a meal plan where you would be getting the extra calories to gain weight and still control your diabetes. Other than that, you might want to eat things like nuts, peanut butter, cheese, trail mix, energy bars, etc.. Adding those things for snack would get in the extra calories and wouldn't cause your sugars to spike too badly.

Good luck :)

lgvincent,

You may have a point. I was thinking about checking (testing) for something like Thyroid. Is that a blood test? How do you test your thyroid level (what ever they call it)?

I thank all for your input.

Have you counted your Calorie intake? You should be on about 2000 a day. It's worth checking that before doing anything else.

You can get a blood test done by your doctor which will tell if you have an under or over active tyroid....or normal!!!

Fats have more calories per gram than protein or carbs. You could try introducing more healthy fats into your diet.

Eat lots and lots of avocados. It has the highest fat content of any fruit. Try adding guacamole to your dishes.

Thanks, I will consider Avocados. I hope they don't have much carbs.
