Well, my endo just gave me a brand new blood monitor, but of course when I go to get the script for my strips refilled, the insurance company won't cover them. Do any of y'all know of a discount supplier by chance?

First call your insurance company, it may be that they won't cover that BRAND of strips, but if you get a different meter they might cover the strips.

If they dont' cover ANY strips (which is illegal in many places) perhaps get a generic brand meter (I think wallgreens does one) they are usually cheaper.

Good luck

You can also try ebay. I've bought a lot of strips there at a price that is lower than what I'd have to pay otherwise. In fact, I saw 1,250 Accu-Chek Comfort Curve strips and 1,300 lancets sell for $123.00, plus $10.00 shipping. A GREAT price but I missed out because I'm trying to save up enough money to adopt a siamese kitten, which I'm probaby going to pass on.

I've only ordered from U. S. sellers although I have seen them from Canada and Great Britain quite often.

What brand is the meter that you got from the doctor?
The list expencive one you'll find at WalMart.

A good meter and a test at list twice a day will keep you healthy.

Good luck Nick K

We all test our blood sugar.
What I like to ask is why and what we do when the BGs are either low or hight?

Please post a reply on that question.

If you are a T 2, not on insulin, you can do nothing about a high BG reading except exercise to lower it. For a low reading, which most non-insulin takers do not experience, you eat some (5-15 gms) of fast acting carbs until the reading is corrected.
Generally, if you are not on insulin, you test to ensure that your medications or other treatment is still effective, not for short term control.

I never thought about Ebay..great idea! I use the Freestyle Flash. Great meter, but boy expensive strips.
If you are a T!, and you are experiencing high BG...you run for the fridge as quickly as possible and shoot up because the feeling of being high is NOT fun.

If you'r type two (2) and only take oral meds you better see your doctor and get insulin shots cause that;s how you can control it for sure.[/I]
