I am sorry for being gone so long...but I do have a question for someone who knows. I am needing to know how to do my dual bolus. I called mm to find out how to work it. They left me on hold for about 20 minutes:mad: . I wasn't too happy because I was leaving with my husband for the evening. There was going to be some eating, sooooo I figured I would try using the wave bolus. When they finally got on the line with me, I was a little annoyed:banghead: . Then they told me that they would call me back with a mm assistant. It took them roughly 2 hours to get a call back! 2 HOURS! Can you tell that I'm not too happy? I didn't hear my cell phone, so I never talked to anyone:mad: Can someone help me?

Do you mean how do you actually use the dual bolus option (i.e. which buttons), or, rather, how to calculate how much insulin for the dual? The first question would be easy to answer if you provide the pump model. The second is pretty individualized to the person, dependent on your insulin sensitivity, etc. I (after pumping for 5 years now) don't necessarily get it right myself as consistently as I would like.

I do not use the dual wave feature very often but used it this afternoon because I ate pizza for lunch.
I tested and was 76. I bolused (2.5 units) for 2 small pieces of thin crust pizza (25g carbs) and used the dual wave feature to give me 50% (1.3 units) up front and the other 50% (1.2 units) over the course of 2 hours. Two hours later I tested at 142........a bit high for me, but much lower than if I had done a regular bolus.
If you don't have or can't find your pump manual, you can log onto MM website, scroll down to the bottom of the home page, and click on "user guides". Click on the pump that you have (I have the 515) and look through the table of contents. Dual Wave is listed and will explain the feature and show you an example with the steps on how to do it.
During holiday parties when it seems that all I do is pick on food, I use the dual wave but spread the insulin dose over the course of a longer period of time.........say 4 hours. I also do this when I eat Chinese food.

In order to use the dual (or square) wave bolus on a Paradigm pump (at least the x15 models) you need to have that feature turned on. From the main screen hit ACT and then:
BOLUS --> DUAL/SQUARE BOLUS --> ON
Once it's turned on, the choice will always appear as an option whenever you bolus. If you do set a square or dual bolus, the next time you bolus that last choice will be highlighted sio if you want a regular bolus just make sure you choose that. The pump remembers the last type of bolus used and that's what will be chosen the next time you bolus.
As for how much to use it's pretty much trial & error for me. Sometimes taking the recommended bolus (recommended by the Bolus Wizard) and splitting it or spreading it out over time works. Other times I know I'll need more insulin than the Wizard recommends, so I add what I feel I need and then choose my bolus type.
