Hi,
I take my Lantus at 9pm. For the last few nights I've taken a hot bath right afterwards....and I'm noticed that my sugars are really high after supper the next day. I've been wondering if the hot bath is reving up my Lantus and causing it to peter out before I get to 9pm again. Any clue?

I am not sure about the hot bath thing, however I ended up having to split my lantus dose. Half at like 9am and half at 9pm. I am not sure how long you have been on lantus, however I think I was on it for about 3 or 4 months when I ended up having to split it.

Insulin is very heat sensitive. I think what you need to do is take your bath BEFORE you give your shot. That way you won't be heating up the lantus and making it less potent at the end. That's why for pumpers it's hard for us to get in jacuzzis because if we leave the pump on, it will destroy the insulin in the tube and the pump. But if we bolus and disconnect, it will destroy the bolus we just gave until it's absorbed enough in the body.

I agree with this. I've had hypos several times after I've had a long hot shower.

Hot water, especially circulating water, like showers, jacuzzis, hot tubs. etc will increase circulation, which increases the rate of absorption of insulin. They can lower bs, so be mindful of that. Also like others said maybe the insulin doesn't like the heat too. I'd take my bath/shower prior to injecting.

Your skin is less tough when its hydrated. IE: less pain!
Plus your clean! no need to clean the site.
