Well, I was diagnosed type II about 2 weeks ago and have been milling around on the site since then. I thought maybe it was time that I actually got involved. My numbers were not too outrageous which proves how important it is to get a physical every year! Now I have a lot of changing to do. I'm a carb freak who has been eating either ice cream or baking some cookies or some other kind of junk just about every day and night for a while. I usually ate about as much dessert as main course. I once had the nickname food slut at a previous job which should give you an idea of exactly what I'm telling here! And, did I mention that I hate exercise? Yep, some serious lifestyle changes needed here! I have some weight to lose but not too much but it's going to be tough! I'm 5'11" and 215lbs which means I need to lose about 30lbs. I've already dropped a few pounds just by cutting out those bad carbs over the past couple of weeks which has definitely given me more motivation already.
See y'all,
Greg

It sounds corny , but I think if you can achieve anything if you put you mind to it. So losing that 30 lbs can be done, if you want it enough. It does sound like you are making positive changes with your meal choices. Hopefully, you are also trying to exercise as well. Diet and exercise really go hand-in-hand when trying to lose weight.
i wish you the best of luck- please let us know of your progress :top:

Hello Greg and welcome to this wonderful place! :)
Carbs can be quite addictive. I know many non diabetic people who live on crisps, cake, biscuits, chips, bread... To some extent it's like a drug.
Doesn't mean the battle is already lost. Far from it! After a while you don't crave them as much, and later you don't miss them at all. When you eat a healthy and balanced diet you don't feel deprived of anything. When I was first diagnosed I thought my life would mean one very bland and highly restricted diet wise. Not the case. And I am far more healthy now then I was before diagnosis.
You seem highly motivated. That's the way to go.
The very best to you!

Welcome to the forum, Greg. I was a carbohydrate junkie before being dx'd 3 years ago so I know how you are feeling. It's not easy cutting out foods that we've eaten so much of over the years, but with time, it becomes second nature. You don't have to give up everything just because you were dx'd with diabetes. It's okay to have ONE cookie once or twice a week.
