I am a 29 year old female, Type 1. I have been on Lantus for 10 months now. I understand that Lantus is not tested for pregnant women. I am hoping to try to get pregnant soon.
Does anyone have any good advice on preganancy and Type 1? I guess I will have to switch back to the old insulin again.

Hi there :ciao: & welcome to the forum.
Well, it depends who you speak to...I was put on Lantus instead of Levemir in view of starting a family! Have you been on the site diabeticmommy.com ? You will find it offers tons of advice and support from women in the same boat.
Have you started taking folic acid yet? Here in the UK it is 5mg per day for women with diabetes but I do not know what it is in Canada.
Good luck with it all :top:

Thanks. I have been dying to talk to someone else who is Type 1 and wanting to start a family.
That is great news on Lantus and being pregnant. Have you noticed any weight gain since you started it? I have gained about 10 lbs. since I started Lantus about 10 months ago. That is why I started researching insulin and diabetes and found this great Forum.
I have started Folic acid and Materna. Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the website.

steph, Lantus hasn't been studied in pregnant women b/c you can't knowingly subject a pregnant person to an untested drug. However, they do gather data on people who are pregnant and taking lantus and once they gather enough info, can then go for a higher pregnancy rating. I don't think humalog is approved either (maybe now, but wasn't when I was preggers) and my doctor was fine with me taking it. I know a girl who took Lantus while pregnant and she did great. the most important thing is what gives you the best control while you are pregnant. If your doctor is OK with you taking Lantus, then it should be fine. GOOD LUCK!
