I was diagnosed with Type II in May 2006. Within two weeks of diagnosis, I was in the hospital with a blocked artery in my leg! I'm only 38. I have a feeling things were bad for a while. The artery was cleared up, and I've made drastic but livable changes to my life.

I started with levels close to 300. This morning my fasting number was 126. Before bed, it's often closer to 100.

I feel as if I'm on a ton of drugs, but have come to accept that's what I need, at least right now, and maybe forever. It's taken a while, but I'm okay with this. I swim for 30 to 40 minutes at least 5-6 times a week, and haven't eaten processed sugar since a few days before I was diagnosed. This coming from a coca-cola addict. It's the devil beverage.

I am a professor of Sociology and study disasters, and can not wait until I have some time off to just process everything that has happened. I've gone non-stop since diagnosis, and I think I just need a break.

Thanks for this great forum.

Hi there and welcome to the club!:shakehand

My major for my BA is Sociology. I love it!

Sorry to hear about all that you're going through. Your blood sugars seem to have come down nicely so I hope you've been feeling better.

Hi Niki and welcome to the forum. Are you using any drugs or insulin to help you have such good results?

Lex: oddly enough I feel worse when I'm lower, but the doc says it will get better as my body got used to the lower numbers...

Penny: I take 1000 mg of metforim twice a day, and just a week ago avandia was added. My morning sugars even on the met had been in the 150's and 160's.. the lower morning numbers are a new phenomena. :)

Welcome Niki. Yeah, you'll start to feel "normal" when your sugars are "normal" after a while...It's a well-documented phenomenon, basically your body got used to being high and made all sorts of adjustments operating that way...Now the the glucose is lower, your body needs to readjust its threshold "sensors" for lows...You can liken it to detoxifying.

I hope you stay awhile. Feel free to ask whatever you want, we're not really shy around here (for better or worse). :smartass:

Hello :hello: , I have been reading and learning from this forum for a few days. I was diagnosed June 16th, 2006 with Type 2. I sort of saw it coming. My AIC number I think it's called was 8.1. Right now my 14 day average since starting is 138. I am not sure of all the numbers but I was really happy this morning to wake up to a fast reading of 112! Heck I was happy to wake up :proud: I just wanted to say hello and thank you for all the helpful advice. My Dr. put me on Fortamet at 500 mg once a day. I am to check my blood once a day, different times and I go back on August 16th, thereabouts, to do a lipid panel again I guess. Not sure yet. Sorry, I can be wordy!

Hi NormaJean, I love the song Elton John sings about you. It sounds like you are doing pretty good so far. Many of us are wordy on this forum, so you will fit right in. Welcome.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME

Like some have already said, you get to feeling better in a pretty short time. I was just diagnoxed in April of this year and it took about a month for me to really start feeling better. Now, I feel better than I have in years. My skin has gotten lots better and scoriasis (or however it is spelled) has gone away entirely. Joints seem to work like they are supposed to (I thought I was getting old). Energy level is way up although I sometimes have spells of being "EXTREMELY" tired. I have also finally started loosing weight after years of trying only to gain. (Lost 45# so far - only 100# to go). Hang in there!!! My bet is that it will get MUCH better.
