Just joined, though I've been reading the forums for a while. Diagnosed with T2 about 6 weeks ago, and it was a complete surprise (ok, maybe not complete...)

The good news is, the diagnosis has led me to lose about 22 pounds so far. I'm aiming to lose another 40 or so, and my goal is to look like Tom Hanks' character in "Cast Away" after he'd been on the island for four years...

Born and raised in southern California (and yes, I've heard all the jokes) but have lived in Virginia for 18 years and love it.

Cheers to all

Hi Steve and welcome to our happy little family. This is a great place for infomation and support. Good job on the weight loss. Are you on any meds?

I was born in Los Angeles and I have heard the same jokes.

I appreciate the warm welcome. It's nice to be able to communicate with folks who are experiencing the same thing I am. I have to admit that since my diagnosis I've sort of felt like I should have a giant scarlet letter "D" painted on my forehead, in the sense that I feel my T2 is a self-inflicted wound...

As to California vs. Virginia: I love California, and go back whenever I can — mostly for the beach and the surf, because there don't seem to be any real waves on the East Coast :) But seriously, I love Virginia because it's green, and there's actually water in the streams, and because it doesn't burn every summer.

As to meds: I take glucophage twice a day (1000 x 2).

Cheers to all.

Hey Forget the "D" on your forehead, just do your Best to fix yourself
back up as good as you can. And yes, it may be hard work Most people don't even know that you are Diabetic, just the few People that you have
to tell. I've had Diabetes for 44 1/2 yrs. Our Type 2 Friend of 8 yrs. didn't know I was a Diabetic 'til he saw me injecting in my kitchen one day. Caught
in the Act. :D He didn't believe it. He said I was too small to be a Diabetic. :1eye: I always thought I was normal size. :D

Well, I'm glad that you still like California. I was kinda worried about that.
Virginia sounds nice also. Take Care.
