View Full Version : Calous on foot and questions
I found a hard place that kind of hurt on my right foot, just on the edge down from my big toe. Now there is NO discoloration and it isn't painful, just a small amount of tenderness when I mess with it. This is the first time I've had a calous. I took my shoe off and felt the bad/worn place in it that is most likely causing this problem. What do you think I should do besides the obvious of getting a new pair of shoes?
Is this something to worry about? What is the difference from a calous and an ulcer, etc? I've only had diabetes, type 1 for 4 years. My numbers and doing better than before. Thanks all:willy:
A calous in itself is a minor thing in life - uncomfortable for sure. Beware that from what I have read having a calous removed it the number foot injury(the removal procedure) that leads to amputation. Not the calous itself, but the procedure. I know people will laugh and say that it is over-kill, but it is not. Don't take it lightly what you do about it.
Keep an eye on it; If it gets worse in any way, call your doc. Treat it with some lotion, TLC, etc. "Normal" people get callouses as well, and I get them all the time. But it's when they swell, bleed, etc., or keep progressing worse and worse that you need to worry...so keep an eye on it.
There's a foot-care topic somewhere around here...Hmmmm where'd we put it?

Linn, I recently had a very small cut on my leg. It was so minor, I did nothing more than put a bandaid and some Neosporin on it. A week later I had a full blown infection, needed antibiotics and it hut really bad. So please take care of the little things.

I get those once in awhile. My pedicure usually softens them and they get partially sloughed away though I do have one about an inch lower than my little toe that doesn't really go away. I'll have my doc check it the next time I'm in.
