Hello all, I've followed the T2 forum for some time and think it's time to seek some advice. I"m female 53 and was diagnosed reactive hypo + early T2 just over 2 years ago, at the same time I began treatment for high cholesterol and hypertension. I don't take medication for T2 because my lows would get "too low" my Endo said. The last 2 years have been a rollercoaster of highs and lows but now with the lows not so low and my fasting numbers climbing.

I'm still within average weight range but try very hard to keep my weight down and often feel bloated and yuck! I use a treadmill at a brisk walk for 20-30 minutes most days as my extra exercise and don't eat any red meat, bacon, ham. I eat chicken, fish and low fat foods, vegetables, fruit and salads, oatmeal and very little bread, rice or pasta, sometimes, dark chocolate and a little red wine with my evening meal. Sometimes I cheat but always get back on track very soon.
Three weeks ago I got a winter flu ie sore throat and head cold, aches and pains and took it easy for a few days to recover, very slow and still not feeling very well. During this time my numbers got much higher and diet and exercise aren't helping much. Fasting 9-10, and 2 hours after meals 12-15, bedtime 10, (Australian) My Dr. said my numbers would be up due to illness but shouldn't they be down by now? Is it time for medication? I can't see my Endo for another 5-6 weeks. I know I'll get some good advice here so thanks in advance and sorry that this intro is soooooo long.

Hello Meg and welcome to this wonderful place! :)

So frustrating when we get sick and numbers go through the roof. I hate that! Depending how sick I was, sometimes numbers can take a little while to come down. The best bet would be to keep testing and keep a close watch on your numbers.

Perhaps if you tried foods that are lower on the GI index would help bring down your numbers a bit?

The very best to you,

Welcome meg, sorry to hear you were crook, being sick can play havoc with BG readings and often the first sign of anything is a rise in BG,your numbers should settle soon, bear in mind your body can not fight off things as effectively with diabetes so it may take longer than you think, and of course we are all different so there is no set pattern.

Hope you get loads of great advice and support from the folks here.

hello and thanks for replies.
I've certainly incorporated low GI foods into my diet but have in the past done best keeping carbs right down, maybe it's time for change!
Thanks again, so good to have such prompt advice.
