Hi everyone,
I went to the doctors about 2 weeks ago for a checkup on my thyroid and was told on my blood test that my glucose was 133. Im seeing an endocrinlogist and such but Im very scared since I have three kids at home to take care of. My question is what do you eat? How much do you eat?
:stupid:
Thanks
momofthree
I eat sushi, tacos, steak, pork, a little of that cheesecake stuff now and then...what do you eat?

Sushi YUCK :puke: I eat just about anything that I don't have to chase to eat :embarasse
Now if you want to talk about cheesecake, I have a weak spot for cheesecake.

momofthree,
Relax. Diabetes is a scary thing and it CAN have scary consequences...if left untreated. Go see your endo, get your diagnosis. I assume when you say you were 133 that was for a fasting glucose test? If not, there are so many variables and questions that need to be answered. Did you eat right before the test? What was the meal? If you did not eat right before, when was the last time you ate and what did you eat?
As you may be able to see, we're an ornery group here, but supportive. Feel free to ask whatever you feel, there is nothing off limits.

I just want to echo what Duck said :dito:... there is A LOT of support to be found here- so I hope you will stick around.
As far as diet goes... have you considered seeing a registered dietician? That might be the most helpful to you- not only would he/she give you ideas on what to eat, but could also help you set up a meal plan that works for you.
In the meantime, do your best to be observant of the carbohydrates you eat. Total Carbs on nutrition labels, not necessarily sugar, is what is converted into glucose in your body. I'm not saying cut everything with carbs out, but just be aware of what you are eating.
I'm not a nutrition expert, but I do know that eating a lower fat diet that consists of lean protein, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables is good way to eat :eating:
I wish you luck~ and please know that we're here to help (if we can) when you need it! :)

HI & Welcome.
Everyone's diet is different. Some follow a low-carb diet, others a low GI. I eat low carb and walk for exercise. It works for me! Good luck.

I had
-filet mignon and fries last night with some tastless green round veggie.
-a bowl of frozen fruit for snack ... and a rum & diet coke ;)
-alpen with milk for breakie
-some carnation instant breakfst for lunch
-i may do nacho's for dinner if not BBQ chicken and taters
I eat around 250 grams of carbs a day (I'm 6' 240lbs and dieting). I don't count the protein and fat, I just mix it in moderately.
Oh, and wellcome. I'm a dad of two. They're resilient little creatures. Lived through my three ambulance trips, dodging needles on the bathroom floor, and my bad moods from fighting this beast. Not to worry you. My endo says he's only ever lost two patients to insulin ODing, and they were on purpose. You'll be jsut fine, I promise.

Instant breakfast for lunch? I used to drink that stuff every day. Can't do it as a DM. too much sugar. quick rise followed by a quick drop. How do you manage on it? Just curious.
Welcome to the forum.
You sound like you would be a type 2. Most everybody that has answered your question is type 1. What you will have to eat and how much is different than that of a type 1. First find out what type and even if you are diabetic. If your test was a fasting test it still isn't confirmed that you are a diabetic. Above 126 on two fasting test taken on different days is the mininum. There are other risk factor that can be taken into consideration - high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.
When you get the results then what you should eat and what else you can do will be easier to answer....

I hardly ever drink it for those reasons. I was in a hurry this morning and grabbed it on the way out. I'll prolly test and have a snack mid or late afternoon. I'm often low before sup.

The doctor took my blood on a fasting level and before this time it fluctuated every time. I basically didn't watch what I ate before then, and now my doctor scared the **** out of me.
I appreicate all this support, I don't feel alone now. I went to see a dietican and she pretty much told me to watch the carbs. Eat only 15 carbs for breakfast and lunch and 30 carbs for dinner. I also can have fruit!!!!!. Furthermore you can have weight watchers ice cream but not there desserts. You can have South Beach Diet cookies. Now Im happy.
Thank you all very much. :burnout:

Generally fruit is good. It contains fructose which doesn't break down as easily as glucose. I wouldn't recommend a pure diet of it; just mix it in with other foods and you'll be fine.

I think it'll be some time before I try another one. Went up to 9.1 two hrs after lunch and down to 3.1 two hours after that.
