Ok, I know I'm gorgeous, but this post isn't about that :whistling

Recently there's been something of a heatwave in Britain (30-35C), so it's expected that I'm going to feel a bit warm. The thing is though that I seem to be feeling it far more than anyone else I know. This morning I walked into work (in shorts and a t-shirt) and by the time I arrived I was so hot, there was a wet (that's 'wet', not 'damp') part on the front of my T-shirt. And that was just this morning. Last night was even worse - I was just sat in the lounge and I was sweating literally like I was in a sauna - it was making my t-shirt wet, I had actual drops coming off my head. It was like sitting under a rather unpleasant shower.

The thing is though that my BGs have been perfectly normal throughout - when I'm sweating like this, I'm not having any hypos or hypers. Right now I'm drying myself off next to the fan on full blast and I'm running at 5.4.

What bugs me is that whilst everyone else is complaining that it's hot, they're not having the same physical reaction as I am. It's like I'm running about 10C hotter than everyone else or something. I admit that I need to be in a little better shape (BMI of 23, shocking) but I can't believe a little extra fat is enough to stoke up my body temp to unbearable. I'm having to guzzle so much water too because I feel so thirsty - I've already got through 2 pints of water in the time it's taken to write this post, it's like being undiagnosed all over again.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Ah, I feel your pain.

I'm the same type of human. Once I start sweating, it's a monsoon. Nothing abnormal, really. I'm just well adapted to hot, humid climate. I'm furry as a bear and that contributes to the mess.

To stop the profuse sweating, I get my head cool with a cold, wet cloth. What the head does, the body follows, it seems. I never wear a cap.

Let's hope the weather turns better for you soon. Maybe there is something to that global warming thing.

I don't cope well when the weather is hot. Perhaps because I'm Canadian??!

It's bloody hot in England at the moment! Too much!! I'm leaving for good!!!!!!

Do you have a/c at work? I find it harder to cope with the heat when I spend most of the day enjoying a/c. It's like hitting a wall when you go home.

Do you drink plenty? Water I mean. We should drink well over 3 litres when it's that hot. If you do already well... continue! I've also been eating light. Hardly any meat, dairy products, stuff that could be hard to digest. Spices! Love my spices! Takes energy to digest when it's that hot! A good crisp salad...

We don't get much sleep over here because of the heat and you probably don't either. Don't forget that when you're tired it's harder to cope with the heat. Harder to cope with everything!

I don't think your BMI of 23 is responsible of you sweating like that :)

Wear pure cotton loose fitting shirts. You will find that a t-shirt is hotter.

Don't know if that will help. Let's just hope the heat wave won't last!! We had a thunderstorm over here this morning and now it's a lot cooler. But the air feels damp, humid.

Take good care!

First let me say you are quite gorgeous!
One of the worst problems I have being diabetic, is becoming dehydrated so easily. I can become that way with just the smallest elevation, and also when I am low. I don't know if there is a connection to the diabetes, but I feel like there is. But I also feel the heat more than others, I think because of being dehydrated. On very hot days, I almost get sick, and must stay in the air conditioned house.

Just a thought...when did you last have your thyroid checked? I know before they diagnosed my overactive thyroid I felt the heat BIG time.

I admit that I need to be in a little better shape
no suggestions but its interesting that threads on the runners world forum seem to suggest that the fitter you become, the quicker you start to sweat and the more you sweat! The mechanism for cooling you down is working efficiently. Maybe the bike rides that you've mentioned have started to work.
Its important to replace the fluids.

Talking about rehydration, I found out that diabetics are more at risk for "water intoxication"...

We are more thirsty than non-Diabetics, so drink more... but "water intoxication can cause confusion, and other hypo symptoms"... I am proof of this as I have extremely low sodium in my blood because of this...

We should drink 3l clear fluid, and if possible non-sugar isotonic drinks to rehydrate the cells...(I cannot have any isotonic drinks due to an sensitivity).

I find I'm always warm too. The minute I step into the sun, I can feel intense heat and warming come over my body. I'll also sweat before anybody else in the heat, and you should see when I play any kind of sport!

I heard somewhere that due to diabetes effects on the thyroid it can effect body temps. I mentioned this to my endo and she said "no, never heard that, it's probably just the type of person you are". I think she tested my thyroid and didn't find anything, though I'm not sure......

The girlfriend likes having her own 'furnace' though........ as I can radiate heat! You don't even have to touch me to feel it (though if you're female, feel free to touch me. ;) )

It's very hot here, too, **** hot. Years ago, I became overheated while playing tennis and since then I sweat like a pig. I even sweat in the shower. If you ever see me in Antarctica, I'll be the guy in the shorts, covered in sweat there, too. Might be frozen sweat, but it will be sweat just the same.

Yes, my boss has that. Except in her case, the 'p' stands for 'permenant'.

I think that's called Global Warming, Gangrel. That sun nowadays burns
you to a crisp.

Hypothyroidism(underactive) usually makes a person intolerant to cold.
Hyperthyroidism(overactive) usually makes a person intolerant to heat.

Yes, I have a "Furnace" also. Very handy in the winter time. ;)

Meaning a fan is that what we Americans call a fan one that just circulates the air or is that an AC where it is cold air? If it is just a standard fan and you are use to AC at work there is part of your problem....your body is having a hard time adjusting to the temp change.....also why is it that europeans are reluctant to AC?? my mom who is french her family doesn't have ac at least not many of them. I always ask who's house and does it have ac???/

Maybe your just going through the changes...LOL

DeusXM

also why is it that europeans are reluctant to AC??

Doesn't ever really get hot enough for long enough to bother with it. As a result, there isn't the same economy of scale that means AC stays expensive. We've usually got much more of a need for central heating, which everyone has.

AC's getting more popular in cars though, but for most of us, opening a window works out cheaper (if not quite as effective) than AC.

We're also much more enviromentally sound in Europe. Perhaps more because energy is so expensive rather than because we care about the planet more. Most Europeans frown on the Americans for their big cars and AC everywhere.
Perhaps we move about less in terms of where we live too. People in Spain are used to the heat, we're used to the wet and the Norwegens are used to the cold.

Main thing is though that Europe doesn't have the temperature extremes that the US does. AC is usually of the most help in areas with really high humidity - most people can cope with it being very hot and dry but once it's hot and the air's moist, it's like an oppressive blanket and only AC can really clear it. And it never gets particularly swamplike in Europe, and the temperature doesn't really go much above 30 anywhere. Even in the south, such as Greece or Spain, 35 is pretty much the upper limit.

I'm not so sure about that. This summer the temp here has already been frequently been in the high 30's. I'm concerned that there will be another year like the 2003 where the cannicule contributed to the deaths of thousands of elderly people. Most of the deaths were in the North of France and Paris is not so far from the UK.
Here in the SW traditional local houses are built for heat with thick stone walls, and shutters which are normally shut all day during hot weather. More modern (except very recent) houses are not really built for high temperatures and the further North you go the less well protected they become.

I say it is an effect of global warming so you might want to get an AC....like here it use to snow at least one a year where the ground was blanketed and you could sled....last good snowfall was in like 95........

I think you are right. I don't know that we could live here in Florida without AC. We rarely ever use the heat in the winter! My hubby saw one of those temperature marquis one day last week, and the temp. was 104 (I think that's 40 degrees celcius)!

Belinda, that is wild that you said that. We were up just a little north of Chattanooga in January for a long weekend, and there was snow on the ground for 2 days!

I live North of Chattanooga in the middle of VOL country and we have gotten NOTHING......did not miss the first day of school for snow...my sister did in Crossville and Sweetwater but us ......nothing......I think Knoxville is immune to it or it just blows right over us...

Sweating just means that your body is compensating for the heat better than most folks.

I love hot weather, but then I sweat like a pig so staying comfortable when it's hot isn't that difficult for me.

Wifey, on the other hand, comes from NOrth like mg 2204 and AC goes on when temp is above 80 F/26.6 C

It is hot,90* plus and very humid. There was a tornado touched down just a couple of miles from my house yesterday, and we have storm warnings right now. It's like going into a steam bath, to step outside. And I sweat (or perspire, since I am a lady) like a pig! It does not cool me off.

DeusXM, Welcome to the world of "HOT FLASHES". I have been doing this for almost two years. Add that to living in Central California where the temps hit 100 degrees right now daily...... I am soggy more often than not.

Looks like the entire country is going to be baked this weekend, we're going to be sitting in the low 100s. Oh yeah, I live in a desert. And my car's A/C isn't flowing like it used to. I hate coming in to work covered in sweat stains!

It was hot here last week...it's been raining for the last few days, just miserable. Today, it's temperate and getting hotter...we do have a nice breeze though.

I don't like it when it's raining, I don't like it when it's hot. I'm just miserable everwhere!

I don't get hot flashes yet...I think I still have another 20 years before that starts to kick in. By looking at my mother, ugh...not looking forward to it! They live in the bay area of CA and last year she *forced* my dad to get AC in the house...

Don't like rain?!? How could you not like rain? We've had drought here for many summers. We've gotten some rain the last two summers when hurricanes have passed through but that's about it. I'd sell my soul to the devil for rain but I'm already bound for **** so I have nothing to bargin with.

Well, mainly I don't like rain because I was born and raised in California (the bay area) and I am my mother's child...we both would like to live somewhere that is a constant 78 deg F., doesn't rain and has a slight warm breeze.

Unfortunately, you go where the work is, and my husband's company moved us up here. About three years after being here, they shut the office down that was here and so now he works from home. We could, technically, move anywhere now...but selling the house and things like that are not something that I want to even come close to dealing with right now! LOL

I would really like to change our heating from baseboard to central, then we could have AC too! No one seems to have central up here unless your house is less than 10 years old, for some reason...
