I know the salad dressing part - I actually like vinegar and oil. I prefer Blue cheese, it is sugar free and the fat fits my particular diet beiefs.

Besides cooking with vinegar how do you consume it. It is supposed to be very helpful for type 2's. I figure if I can consume something that is not dangerous to my organs or requires a prescription and the costs are reasonable I should at least try it. But, what are the best ways to consume it and how much is the correct amount to use. I really don't see drinking it, though it probably would just be a personal mistake and not death defying. I don't know. What do people do with vinegar, that is legal and moral.

My husband is a vinegar freak. :) I, personally, can't stand the stuff.

He has gotten our kids addicted to putting it on anything starchy, so really if that's the good way to eat/drink it, then that's out for us! The one way he does like it is on fish and chicken. We also will marinade steaks in it. I can't eat fish, so I can't tell you what it's like on that, for steak it gives it a nice tang.

I really don't know about the benefits of it though... I'm going to try and download the episode of Good Eats that was on tonight, it was all about vinegar.

My great aunt used to make a concocotion of rasberry vinegar, sugar and hot water to ward off colds, I don't know how effective it was!

According to Wikepedia Two tablespoons of vinegar before a meal was found to prevent blood sugar spikes in a study by Carol Johnston, a professor of nutrition at Arizona University.
Personally I would prefer to drink the wine before it was soured... with much the same effect!

Seriously its very acidic so I think that you would need to take care about ingesting large amounts.

The correct place to put vinegar is on chips, with salt. Unfortunately this will negate any potential health benefits from the vinegar.

I don't care for vinegar but it is good if you have a sunburn to get the sting out.

After doing some searching, it appears that Apple Cider vinegar is available in tablet and capsule form. You can find these in the vitamin aisle.

If you don't like to do it as my son did at age 2--climb on the table, pick up the picture and down it. (Oh, does it ever burn in that quantity.) Then the fun part is when it comes up burning all the way.) And if I remember right changing the diapers wasn't wonderful either.

Seriously I love it on spinach and broccoli. And as someone else mentioned a apple cidar vinegar tablet would work great.

I tried something that works. I mixed 2 teaspoons of apple vinegar in a little water with 1 packet of stevia. It is actually drinkable. Still has the vinegar taste, but not that bad, compared to it straight. It loses that 'bite' that gets you.

Vinegar is alright.
If I'm in Ohio at the hot dog stand I'll put it on my fries. Other than thaI forget.
I have drank vinegar before and it takes your breath away.

I use vinegar on occasion but am not really a large fan of it. I can barely stand the smell of it.

Kinda like watering-down bourbon, eh?

Ever try the tablets that gettingby mentioned?

Balsamic vinegar is delightful in salads and mixed in with starchy foods, like potatoes. After a vacation in Europe my fiance puts malt vinegar on his fries all the time!!!! It smells like Easter :T

Before I bought my smoker, I used to boil my ribs in water, vinegar and mustard before putting them on the grill. Not sure how much vinegar gets absorbed by the meat, but you can taste it...

Add some insulin and Symlin and now we are talking! But it's got to be English fish and chips.

We've always used vinegar/water/baking soda in our Family for
occasional upset stomachs and heartburn. Also the oil and vinegar
for salads, on fries, etc. I can't see it being too bad just drinking
the 2 tablespoons or teaspoons before the meal.

I usually take about 1/3 of a can of diet mountain dew or anything similar, add about the same amount of water, and then 2 tablespoons of vinegar. The vinegar adds just enough twang to make it good. Then I also dump it on salad too.

Bobby, my husband is interested in this recipe of yours. :) He's a malt vinegar lover, so wants to know if that kind would be a good mix, or if there's a certain vinegar that you use.

TIA!

Hi Rikki.
From what I understand it has to be unprocessed apple cider vinegar that has not been distilled or filtered to get good results. The good stuff has the "mother of vinegar" which can be seen sometimes as a stringy substance in the vinegar. I found mine at a local organic grocer or can be found locally made in season.

The brand I get is from Sun Harvest, it's called BRAGG Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. :D

I've just had my favourite meal!

good quality fish, smothered with lemon jiuce, cooked in an iron frypan with a smattering of olive oil, the fish lightly coated with w/meal flour. Salad with loads of a good quality balsamic vinegar (the best I've had was aged for 12 years, still trying to find out where I bought the rotten thing!) beetroot, cucumber and tomatoes on the vine. yummy, yummy, yummy.

I am having trouble at the moment keeping the BG under control, wish I could just forget about the whole thing, but, so I have gone back to the basics, I always find that protein, with salad and vinegar does the trick for me.

If you can have chips, lucky you, I can't - potatoes do horrible things to my BG, then you could smother them in a good quality vinegar.

I keep seeing recipes for strawberries and like berries marinated in balsamic vinegar, must try it one day.

And yes, a glass of wine does wonders for my blood sugar readings. I treat it as a purely medicinal necessity, of course!!
