I changed from Lantus to levemir 3 months ago. Got the first HBA1C since then back to day- 8.2- still not great but down from 9.4, so some improvement. However, I have had a lot of lows and about 8 episodes of ketoacidocis since changing. The main problem seems to be that levimer lasts 18 hours rather than 24, leading to problems with things like trying to eat dinner late, as there is no insulin in my system. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Does anyone have experience of splitting the dose of levimer between breakfast and bedtime so there is basle insulin in your system 24h a day? Also the information leaflet says that you should not inject the levimer into the same sights as you are injecting humolog. Does anyone know why this is?

Do a forum search on Levemir; we discussed this just this last week.

Levemir is best taken twice a day for Type 1's. Large doses will make Levemir act like NPH. Therefore, split your dose, or spread it according to your results. (I take about 70% of my dose in the evening, a couple hours before bed, and another 30% in the morning).
