I woke this morning at 5:30, with severe hunger pains. My stomach actually hurt. I tested and was 147. Sometimes when I feel hungry but am high, I drink a lot of water and the BS goes down and I feel better. That did not work this morning, in fact it made it worse and I was shaky, and BS was still 149. I had a normal supper and a snack of peanutbutter on whole wheat bread at around 10 last night. I did not get to sleep until after 1am, so I am still very tired. I ate my normal breakfast, a small bowl of Special K High Protein cereal and a couple of strawberries, and feel much better. I also took a Novolog injection, and my morning meds and am now struggling to stay awake. I know it can't be good for me to wake up after 4 hours sleep, eat and go back to bed. I hate days like this, I just drag through it. My main question, should I have just ignored the hunger pangs, I'm pretty sure I would not have slept through them, if I tried.

Well, for me, that isn't a horrible reading... but i know you may follow stricter guidelines... Penny, I wouldn't worry too much, but I would test a little more today and correct when needed. Perhaps it's just some kind of fluke :dontknow:.
Hang in there! :)

I'm not much of a morning person and I don't remember ever waking up really early with the urge to eat. I get very little sleep, 4-5 hours a night on average. If I ate that early I probably would not go back to bed, but only because I need to take insulin with food and I'd be worried about falling asleep and going low. Oops, just noticed that you're also taking insulin + other meds, so I probably would have stayed awake too.
I've also never noticed any hunger with a high BG reading, but 147 would be a good 2-hour PP reading for me, and it would come down more by hours 3 + 4.
I don't think eating early is going to be a big problem, except you might be hungrier throughout the day. You might want to plan on having a couple of small snacks so you can eat your other meals at your usual time.

Research is indicating that the less sleep you have, the more your body is likely to crave more food.
How this applies to us, I'm not sure yet but I keep searching.

At noon, I was 91. I ate a hotdog (because I was at a place where hotdogs were all that was available :frown: ), just a bun and frank. I ate some carrots and cucumbers for a snack. Now at 4pm, I am 71. I am about to eat a serving of Lasagna and a salad. I am so hungry, I don't care what it does to me! I will shoot myself though, before I do it.:)

I hope you enjoyed your lasagna, Penny. God, I'd be hungry too :eating: on so little food! Hopefully, you're feeling better~ how did your blood sugar react?

133 doesn't sound too bad at all after lasagna... Was that too high for you? I hope that you are feeling better anyways :)

I was pleased with the number. Pasta usually causes me to go high and stay there. I was just surprised even though it was 70 before eating. I am still hovering around 100, after a snack of cheese and crackers. Just can't figure out what is going on.....147 after fasting for 7 hours, 100 after eating things I usually cannot have. I'm hot and tired and have a "husband has been working on the water pipes" headache. But feel much better.

Perhaps you were going low while you were sleeping and your body released glucose to rebound the low?
I know sometimes when my bs is high, I'll skip a meal or snack if I'm not hungry anyway, and my bs just goes higher.

People still have to eat, even those with diabetes. If you are hungry, and your sugar is a bit high, eat. You can always get more insulin. These items should be brought up to your diabetes coordinator or doctor. Food coverage is simple mathematics!
