I ran into a lady today, who said I should not drink iced tea (or hot) with a meal, or a half hour before or after. She said it "takes away the protein from a meal." I asked her where her source of information was, and she said "everybody knows that." So does "Everybody", except me know this?

Maybe if you drink too much tea you dont eat as much of everything else? lol NOPE, I've never heard of that either. People come up with some crazy "facts".

If that is the case then I am getting no benefit from the protein I eat, which is a lot. I drink green tea after almost every meal, at home. When out I like coffee, or iced tea. I really doubt the statement...

I have not heard that at all...but...

On another similar topic, a finding was just released that diet coke causes a person to gain more weight than regular coke. There is something in diet coke that causes the person to be hungrier and eat more. So in reality, a person eats more calories in foot with diet coke than drinking just regular coke.

Yeah, it's called "aspartame", a known hunger-inducer.

Boy, if she offers you any financial advice, politely decline.

Just about the most negative things you can find about tea is that it has caffeine in it unless it is removed, and that it has a diuretic effect and can dehydrate you. I've never, ever read where tea interferes with protein uptake. As a matter of fact, I can think of at least a couple bodybuilding supplements built on "tea".

This is what bothers me about some people. I have been dealing with diabetes most of my life, and they decide they need to educate me in my care. Just because they have a father, brother, Aunt or grandmother who is diabetic, they are experts.
I don't mind that people don't know much about it, I don't know much about many other dieases. Just that I would never try to tell some one who has migraines how to handle it, because I have no experience with it. I don't even try to tell other people with diabetes what they "should do". If they ask, I might tell them what works for me, but I try not to presume I know what works for them.
This woman was not even a friend, just someone who knew someone I know. They heard that I was ill, and decided to tell me how to cure myself.
I drink tea or water all day. For a special treat, I have Diet Rootbeer, and maybe a Diet Coke once a month. I did not notice a weight loss when I quit drinking Diet Coke. When I quit drinking the soft drinks daily, I noticed a lot fewer stomach aches. It works for me, but maybe not for you.:)

Well I'm somebody!! (my mom told me so) :)

I have never heard any such thing about tea before.... LOL

I love my cup of tea and have one or two cups a day. I used to drink a lot more but have cut down because I chose to, certainly not because I think it's bad for you. I've always had tea with a bit of skim milk and no sugar so I didn't have to make any adjustment after being diagnosed. I just cut down due to personal choice.

So lets have a cuppa and enjoy! :tee:

The "everybody" sounds like the same "everybody" in that
Coffee Crisp commercial. :hmmmm: I've had some tea everyday
since I was about 17 (only a few yrs. ago ;) ), and I've never
heard that it takes away protein. I mostly heard that tea was
good for ya. I also have the weekly glass of iced tea during the
summer, spring and fall.

I drink tea all the time and would not consider giving it up. By "everyone", that woman must have meant herself and some nut job in her family!

As for Diet Coke, I lost loads of weight consuming mass quantities of the stuff. I really don't believe that it causes people to gain weight. I can see how maybe someone might feel that by drinking a diet soda, they can then eat that enormous piece of cheesecake. In that case then yes, you will gain weight if you think like that all the time.

I still drink diet sodas (either Diet Coke or Diet Dr Pepper 95% of the time) and it doesn't make me feel hungrier or cause me to eat more. Sometimes if I think I'm hungry but I know I'm not, I'll have some soda which satisfies me. I do also drink a lot of water.
