I am so very new to this, only diagnosed yesterday afternoon. So maybe I should give it a few days to subside on these yucky side effects. My blood sugar was 324 yesterday, I didn't even know what those numbers meant until my doctor told me.
I was put on:
Gluburide and Metformin
lipitor
quinapril
I think I spelled those right....anyhow, all day long I've been so light headed dizzy and nauseus. Food has not even remotly sounded good to me at all, but i've tried to ,ake myself eat, which is hard, because I'm still struggling with what I should or shouldn't eat til I can even meet with the people they've set up for me....
But is this normal? I think i feel worse now, then I did yesterday before I took these meds for the first time last night.....I'm scared, miserable and maybe over reacting too soon....I just needed to vent somewhere mostly.

Well, me again. Metformin is known for the nausea thing. It will subside. I cannot say how long because it didn't happen to me that way. The lipitor should not bother you or should the quinapril.
Gluburide, I have no experiences with it, and personally would don't like any drug that makes your pancreas work harder. Personal feeling of mine.
First day or two, or more is not a good indication how you will feel next week. You are not over reacting, not really. You are putting something new in your body and it does not sit well. Who likes that and who likes feeling poorly. Give it some time before you pass judgement on the situation.

Also keep in mind the drugs are working and are bringing your blood sugar down. Your body is use to a high blood sugar level and has adjusted to that high number being the norm. Now the meds are bringing it down and your body doesn't think that's normal and so it's all out of wack. Wait till next week and hopefully you'll start feeling alot better.

Maya...........Welcome to the forum!
I am a pumper but I also am taking 500 mg of Metformin twice a day and 20mg of Lipitor before bed. Metformin will cause stomach upset so you're best to take it with food. It could take up to 4 weeks or more before your stomach settles and your blood sugars come down.
Could you tell us some of the foods you've been eating? Some of us follow a low carbohydrate diet, others count calories, some the glycemic index. What works for one, may or may not work for the other. I stay away from all white breads, pasta, rice & anything made with white flour. I eat alot of light wheat bread (toast for breakfast, deli meat sandwich for lunch), salads, and lean meats. I can eat some fruit such as a peach or a few strawberries. I do well with broccoli and string beans.
It takes time to get the hang of this disease, but we're all here to help so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Yeah, I figure it should, take a while, the nausea is really whats making me feel so horrible. The weird thing is i never really ate much before to begin with, sonow its even less....like today I had an english muffin at breakfast and then a serving of cheezit crackers for a snack, and then a small microwave burrito for lunch, that i made it half of the way through before i had to give it to the dog, and then a small container of un sweetened apple sauce in the afternoon and then tonight we had spagetti....but i wouldnt really say I had really big portion sizes of things....mainly because food didn't look at all appetizing today....
What kinda stinks is, like all the high carb foods are all we have around here at the moment, they were cheap! lol, and other then the burrito, i didnt have meat all day so im prolly seriously lacking in proteins an such...but all of the foods I probably should be eating always seem to cost more, well maybe because I'm also somewhat picky.....gah I hate to think what this nutritionist will say to me....like tell me to get over myself lol
Anyhoo, thanks for just letting me vent, I'm going to attempt to eat my 6th little meal before bed and maybe tomorrow will look brighter for me. I get kinda worried still, I won't even have the meter to test my blood sugar for a week or so til it comes in the mail...and im already paranoid! lol
I guess I just want to do things right, not screw it up and well take care of myself for once.

Maya, I take Metformin and Glyburide (I thinki that is the same thing you take), along with insulin. I had a few weeks problems with Metformin, but none I know of with the Glyburide. And welcome to the forum.

I am so much less woozy and dizzy this morning, and I managed to eat breakfast without being so nauseus.
I'm just so tired though! and I crave sweet things like crazy right up until I get to see it in front of me and then im like no i dont really want it....it's driving me nuts lol My poor body is so confused heh
I'm all anxious to finding out what my blood sugar nmber will read, once my meter and all that comes in the mail....course then i'm terrified about poking myself! I don't want it to hurt~hides~ Anyhow, enough ramblings for now lol

What dose of Metformin did they start you on? You should have started on a low dose and had it increased as your body adjusts.
I'm sorry you're going through these side effects. I too had a terrible bout with Metformin. It's hard to get on with everyday life when you feel so icky!! Hope you feel better and let us know when you get your meter what your numbers are!

Oh, just wanted to add . . . don't worry about the finger pokes. They're not that bad. It's more of the psychological factor of pressing the button to release the prick that's the most stressful. After 10 yrs I still hate that moment when I'm pressing that button . . . but the bark is worse than the bite, so to speak.
