These things are drivin me nuts. I bolus 15 carbs for one of these things and my BS level goes sky high. Anyone else have this problem with this wonderful tasting little fruit?

Odd, but maybe it's just your individual sensitivity. During the summer I eat them almost every day, figuring 15 carbs and do okay. Is that the only fruit you have that problem with? Maybe add 5 gms/carbs at a time and experiment until you find a dosage that works?

Depends of the size of them for me.
Small= 15 Carbs (Slightly larger than a plum)
Medium=20-25 Carbs (size of an apple)
LARGE= 30-45 Carbs (like one of those HUGE oranges)
_ALASKA_, how are you with peaches? I think these are higher in sugars than peaches since they are a hybrid.

Same with me I usually add a little more depending on the sizes of the fruit. Bananas I gauge by the spots..LOL you know the sugar spots on them! I eat nectarines all spring and summer as well it really depends how sweet they are when I eat too. Those that are really sweet require me to bolus more. This is one of those things like pasta/rice that you have to figure out what works for you.

Good points, Belinda and Rzrbks.
I do tend to prefer my fruits and veggies a bit (what some people would consider) under-ripe.

Yes, Yes, me too--nice and crunchy
particularly Pears--Ain't nuthin' better than a green Pear--hard and crunchy like apples. I even like my peaches and nectarines crunchy.
Where we lived for 14 years we had 1 pear tree and 5 apple trees. In the fall, while riding on the lawn mower and picking the apples that had come through the first frost, I thoought I'd died and gone to heaven. The first frost put more sugar into the apples and it was like "eating" apple cider.

Alaska,
Your problem with nectarines sounds like my problem with pizza.
Individual reaction........to foods, I think.
We are having a family get-together tonight.......and guess what's on the menu?? pizza!!! I'm bringing a salad!!!
I like all my fruit "under-ripe" also.......is this a common thing for diabetics? Maybe it's a sub-concious decision to avoid the high sugar content in "ripe" fruit???????
questions???questions?? questions?
Take care all!!!

I like my fruit nice and ripe,
Don't seem to have a problem with peaches or pears though, nor oranges
this is very odd

_ALASKA_,
I remember reading on a thread, somewhere, ADA I think, that the poster was able to eat Blueberries for thge first tinme in a number of years. He/she had quit eating them because they just couldn't control; BG with that particular fruit and he was now thrilled that Blueberries could be part of the diet again.
Hope that's not you but...........

Sorry, _ALASKA_
I didn't make myself clear. The gist of the post was that this person had been able to eat Blueberries for a long time and then all of a sudden he couldn't control BG when he ate the berries so he had to give them up.
He continued to check every so often to see if he could once again eat Blueberries and all of a sudden, once again, after a number of years, he could eat his beloved Blueberries.
Us'ns (Southern for "we all") with Diabetes have got to expect that over the course of time our bodies will go through periods when certain foods will move on and off our "acceptable" list.
I rue the day when Chocolate French Silk Pie goes off my list:D

Strange how different foods react differently for each person. I was reading one night how someone ate popcorn as a snack and they had no problem with it. So, thinking this was a fun idea, I got a movie and popped some popcorn. I ate approximately two cups. Whoa.....big mistake. My blood glucose went up into the mid 300 range even when I bolused what I figured was the correct amount. I also know some people that cannot eat corn chips. These aren't a problem for me (cept my scale hates em). So go figure.
Put me down for greener banannas, soft nectarines and softer pears. LOL

The can of flavored popcorn I got for Christmas is 19 grams of carbs for 1-1/3 cups of popcorn. It sent my kids BG into chaos.

These are the reasons we don't go to movies as often as we used to. The Only way to enjoy a movie properly is to get the Giganto-Humoungous-Refill bag of popcorn and then get a refill about half way through the movie.

My point exactly!!! LOL. What good is a movie without a bag of popcorn. I guess we take dying to see a movie to a whole new level!
