I'm new at this posting so I thought I would start something I know.

Ever been hypo but still funtional?

Been in the 20s may times but was still going.

Sometimes you are low and have a crazy trip other times you dont even notice.

I have got many stories and I just want to see what other people have to say and possibly compare episodes.

When I was about 13 or 14 I checked my BG and it was 21. My dad was right there and freaked out, went to call 911. I felt fine though! A little shaky but certainly not like I would pass out. Told him to get me some ice cream and I'd be fine. :-

Then there are other times, (like recently) where I was in the 130's to 160's and felt like I was going to pass out and die. That was scary!

Sure, I've done the same thing many times. Often, I'll be low and completely unaware of it and other times I'm sure I'm in an insulin reaction only to check my blood sugar and find it's high.

diabeticquel: been there-done that, LOL. I checked my bg one evening while at work and was surprised to find it at 36. I also had a low about a week ago where two different One Touch meters showed my level to be at 29 and 30. Felt weird but I was still functioning and talking. Felt well enough to get some sugar on my own.

I've never been lower than 50, but just this week I was routinely checking my bs after breakfast and it was 64....and I felt perfectly fine! I was pretty suprised because I normally have obvious symptoms.

I have had a low in the 20's and according to my doctor nobody should be alert when that low. So he didn't believe me! I was fully alert but I couldn't walk.

Im a swimmer and sometimes after a long hard practice, I'd wake up in the middle of the night with it in the low 30's...I'd go days in a row waking up with it around 33....I'd just chug some juice and I'd be fine. I always find I have a weird taste in my mouth when its that low in the middle of the night though....

yeah i've had a low bg of about 1.8mmol after driving home. i didn't notice anything... i was horrified when i found out. usually i know i'm going low because i get rather angry with the people around me and frustrated with myself (cause usually i get clumsy too).

A few months after I was diagnosed I tested at lunch one day and was 1.2. I felt perfectly fine, but my mom freaked out saying I should be unconscious. I used to feel fine at readings like 1.9 all the time which freaked my parents out. Lately I am functional and able to treat myself when I'm that low but I also feel symptoms of them more than I did when I was younger.

I hope you try to avoid this now, as it is very bad for your brain to have continual lows like that. The brain is the largest consumer of glucose in the human body...

I would be perfectly functional at low BGs, low 30's, and if/when I tested and caught it I'd think it was no big deal. The bad thing is I'm hypo unaware, so if I hadn't tested and caught the readong of 32 and went any lower I wouldn't know until I was woken up by paramedics. Or, if I was home alone, I'd wake up freezing to death and having a seizure as I was coming out of the low (thanks, liver dump!).

Other times my legs would give out and I'd fall and not be able to get back up. I sort of knew why but I always thought that it wasn't a problem. Sometimes I'd fall several times before I could stand again. That happened outside a lot fo times and I have no idea how I still managed to get to where I was going.

Ya Greg I had that mid night taste / hypo a few times too.

But I only read one post about the muscle reaction??

There have been too many times where my body will go into spasms. I know it's happing but cant control it. Its impossible to drink anything because your arms are shaking and head is bobbing.

I found it best to just eat some G tabs or what ever is available.

I cant seem to find a direct link between the hypos and the way my body reacts to them.

Sometime you know, sometimes you dont, sometimes your muscles spaz out, sometimes you get confused, sometimes you get manic, and sometimes you get sleepy and pass out?

Anyone got any ideas about what leads to different hypo reactions?

I'm slowly becoming more hypo unaware. Normally I'll get really shaky and start to sweat. I also will become paranoid... very weird. However, in the last week or so, I haven't been having any of those feelings, so I think I don't notice as much anymore. Thankfully, my cat does notice and takes a swipe at my legs or bats my face to wake me up. :)

Don't know why all the different reactions, though it's like everything else...YMMV

You might want to run your BG a little higher for awhile, so you don't lose your awareness. It is NOT fun being hypo unaware. I have gone from going about my normal routine to being unconscious with no warning. The last time I had a seizure home alone, I woke up face down at the foor of my bed, half dressed. Apparently I had fed my cats, turned on some music, took a shower and was getting dressed when I passed out without any warning. I've done the same at my job, working on something and the next thing I know there are paramedics hovering over me.

I have changed my BG target from 80-120 to 100-140 in hopes of regaining symptoms. It is hard for me to allow myself to run higher but I know it's for my own good. I try not to freak when I even go up to 160-180 2 hours after a meal because I know it will come down. I still don't have any real symptoms back but I have also been having fewer lows!
