I didn't want to steal Jim or Sydneya's threads, but I have been having a little of the same problem. I seem to be hungry all the time lately. I wake early in the morning, feeling like I really need to eat. This morning, at 4:30, I tested at 135, not bad for my fasting level, but so hungry I was shaky. So far, I am not overeating at all, seems like I can eat a small bit of anything, and the hunger is gone. But a hour or so later, I am "starving" again. I took 7 units of Novolog, and my metformin and ate a small tomato and some cottage cheese, at 6. If I do like I have been, I will run from 60 to 120 during the rest of the day. But I have to struggle to not be eating all the time. So I am worried I am going to start giving in, especially on some of the stressful days.
I do seem to be able to control right now though. Last night, we went out to eat with friends, I had steak fajitas (sp?), gave away the rice that came with it, and only ate two of the wraps, but all the meat and avocado, tomato, lettuce and cheese. Two hours later, I tested at 112. Considering everyone else was eating all the things I like, I was pretty pleased with myself. But I was so hungry when I tested. I ate some cheese and crackers, but woke up hungry less than 5 hours later.
I already take up to 7 shots a day, I can't be "shooting up" every hour or two for a snack, can I?:)

I would def. bring it up w/ my doc. Your metabolism seems like it is speeding up and the insulin is being transported correctly, now. You levels are good. Have u been doing any extra activities?

As long as you cover all that you eat, you are fine. Testing is what will let you know.

Could it be the insulin making you so hungry? That was the problem I had when I used to take shots years ago. Never ending hunger.

I don't know how many shots you want to take a day, but could you break up your meals more? Have 6 small meals a day?

Please, please don't take this the wrong way but I kind of think that when people get older they resemble a baby or a young child again. It may sound funny but it's very true. Babies and toddlers want to eat all the time, they want to sleep all the time and they poop and pee all the time. :) Now if I associate this trend with all the elderly people I know they do the exact same things. Then to add the babies are more prone to get sick same as the older people.

It was just a thought, I haven't had my coffee yet!

Sandi, I agree, nothing works like it should, and the peeing part is mostly true. The sleeping, I am not so sure of, I hate wasting time sleeping. I know youwere referring to all those "other" old people on the forum, and not me. no offense taken.
Lex, I wonder about the insulin being the problem, it seems to just got worse since I increased mine.
Cinnabon, I test a lot, most of the day seems to go really good, just the morning readings need improvement. Also, the 10 year old is giving me some grief with all her mouth, I forgot how hard that was to deal with. I am getting too old to deal with that stuff again.:) But school starts soon, that will help!

I always have believed that Diabetes is a balancing act... it's really a matter of balancing not only food and insulin, but also activity, stress, hormones, etc.. It's not easy.

To me, it does sound like there might be something else going on... It's possible that you are taking too much insulin and that is making you feel hungry... But, if your not dropping low frequently, then I'm not sure that the problem.

I think it would be wise to talk to your endo/doctor about this. B/c you shouldn't feel hungry all the time... There's times where I am extra hungry ,but that's not usually on a continuous basis.

Only other thing that crosses my mind is emotional eating... Are you feeling stressed? B/c I know sometimes I'll eat for other reasons than being hungry- I guess, in some way, it's feeding not a physical hunger, but more like an emotional hunger, if that makes sense. I don't know if this is something that applies to you, but it's something i thought I would throw out there...

In the meantime, some things that might help would be to drink more water, eat more protein, and have small snacks throughout the day...

Hope this helps.
