Ok so things were going sooo great for the first 2 weeks for me. and I thought things would just keep getting better, because back when my BS was in the 90-130 range sooo consistently....i was eating horrible! But, at the time I had to because we had no other food in our house. And so I would eat a serving size of a little debbie snack, or a serving of doritos, ot even spagetti! and be amazed my bs would be so good.
And now, I eat like whole wheat and multi grain pasta, and multi grain crackers, cereals, even whole wheat oatmeal! Fresh fruit instead of fruit juices, i eat things like celery and no carb ranch dressing in between meals when i find out its high, not wanting to make it worse then. I've completely cut out soda, koolade and fruit juice from what i drink and only drink water now.
and my BS stays 130-160 now! grrrrr
I've lost 15 pounds, I've started walking a mile 3 times a week, and working up to more!
I just dont get why my bs is suddenly so crazy. ~sighs~
and I seriously need a new doctor I think because he doesn't seem concerned at all when I called him and so I have to wait til august 23rd to get him to DO anything. and my insurance won't pay for me to change doctors yet again, beause this is the 4th time this year. AND I can only go to an endocrinologist, IF my idiot doctor right now writes a referral! gah!
Well, first off - you are still so new to what you have to learn, by experience, to be concerned about failure. Take what you learn and make the adjustments necessary. Don't let any one or even a few failures(if you want to call them this) to mean that much.
As far as getting the food in the fridge - my wife was throwing and giving away things for weeks. living with others just complicates this process.
Look at the things you mention here. I have found 'any' bread is bad. Pasta is just as bad. I suggest you selective cut out some items and test the results. No matter what anyone else says or suggest it is what your results mean to you. Fruit is a also a very difficult thing for type 2's. Don't believe me, test and retest. I know, the ADA diet calls for oatmeal and pasta - well, test and you will see they are leading you down that garden path to high results. Again, don't believe me, test for yourself.
Beyond all, hang in there and don't let what has happened change you efforts to get a good hold on this.

Great! Just great!
A diebetes educator can tell me what stuff to go buy, tell me what i have to eat, and tells me I'll be "juuuust fine". And then I've wasted all my food stamps on things that are just screwing me up.
Lovely.
I was doing better eating regular **** food, I was normal!
I'm very ticked today, so please ignore any random tantrums, I've been in tears over enough stuff lately, this on top of it is going to just push me over the edge I think.
It is easy for any of us to say that you will be just fine. That really is not the way it is, most of the time. Each of us are what make us just fine. Ok, normal is a thing of the past, so to speak. Like I said, you are still too new to have failures - right now you have "learning experiences." You now everyone says take one day at a time, well, take one meal at a time. Lunch didn't work out well, ok, what about dinner? Put aside lunch and rethink dinner. It is really a matter of choices - learn what works and add that item to your list of choices. It isn't just that simple considering all the other things in life, but it basically is that. You can count carbs, you can eat pretty much the same acceptable meals of good choices. The bottom line is still your blood glucose test results. Don't hold onto something because you feel you must have it - you probably don't and it will just drive you crazy attempting to make that certain special food fit in.
As far as wasting money on food that just screws you up, well, join the club - eating correctly is not cheap. The cheap foods are filled with sugar and hidden sugars. Sugar is addictive and food manufactures know that better than we do.
Don't expect your numbers to just fall into line - that might take a little while to get adjusted to this whole new lifestyle thing facing you. Just remember that each meal is a seperate experience from any other meal you have eaten or will eat. You have another chance coming in just hours to do better, and if you don't do better then shoot for the next one.

Thanks for that little bit of encouragement about diet. I had my first diabetic shopping trip yesterday. And quite a trip it was... Healthy food is so expensive, expecially since you know it probably won't taste anywhere near as good:frown:
I bought a small packet of that multigrain spaghetti just to try it out. It was over $3.00. I was shocked. Anyway... when I got to the check out counter, the clerk that checked me out said that she "just loves that multigrain pasta, it is so much better than the bleached flour type". That gave me a little hope.
Thanks for the encouragement about taking one meal at a time.

Well....im confused how a meal of regular bread in a sandwich, some chips, an apple....bs of 120, 2 hours later
next day, a meal of virtually no carbs at all, some cottage cheese and celery dipped in a no carb dressing and some lunch meat i munched on.....170 2 hours later
I'm starting to get irked here.
And this isn't a one time thing, this same scenerio repeats itself consistently since around 11 days ago.....but im still trying.
If a meal at mc donalds, granted only half of what i would have had there previously, is gunna make me be normal and all the special food i tried to buy that would make it so that i was eating less carbs is going to screw me up, then what am i suposed to think?

Some carbs cause blood sugar spikes more easily than others; as does the time we eat as well. I find the glycemic food list really helpful. I find that the more fiber in my food the more control I have.
I can eat as much as I want in the mornings after my one-hour exercise routine without having a bad postprandial reading. If I eat the same thing late at nights (after 8 pm, say) I need medication to prevent a hyperglycemic reaction.
Carbs have been getting a bad rap - unnecessarily, I think. Since there are so many other factors that influence blood sugar levels, blood sugar control effort should be multi-dimensional. For me, exercise, rest, stress management, and diet have saved me from needing medication all the time. High fiber complex carbs form over 70% of my diet, and it works fine.
this happened to me this week, I know how you feel and I even made a thread about it but you'll get through it like I did. I'm getting on track again!!!
hang in there

Well several days later.....
I've figured out what works for me, and I'm learning it's not what works for everyone. I've learned that my body does good with the food I used to eat...IN MODERATION....so I just do that now and my BS hasn't gone above 120 in about 4 days. I'm not as hungry, I'm loosing weight, and I have the energy to exercise. But the whole healthy food kick was making me so sick....and it's not that I eat absolutly horrible now.....I eat about 1/3 of the food I used to, and I've changed some things....
And I guess what works for me works for me....I just was so frustrated.....I wanted some magic solution, and all I've found is that what works for me, might not work for anyone else but me...so anyhoo frustration gone, an I guess I'm lucky that my body really does fine with the foods i like if I'm just careful with them and don't go over board an crazy.
Temper tantrum over now! hehe
