Pump Comparison Chart

I recently made a pump comparison chart that was hosted on a somewhat crappy hosting site where you had to crawl through many hard to deal with ads and such to find it. The link expired there. I now have it hosted on google base. Can we say much better? And it won't expire. Enjoy! :tee:

Great comparison chart! I've been looking around at pumps and trying to decide. I've been Type 1 for 15 years but finally thinking seriously about a pump.

I'm new to terminology. What do the different connection types mean? There's "proprietary," "standard," "custom," and "Luer lock" from what I've read in different charts. Is one better than the other?

Also, what pump do you use and why?

Finally, I noticed some BIG advantages to the Omnipod. Anyone out there using one? Any idea if it will go nationwide soon?

Standard and luer lock mean the same thing. It means just what it says- it's the industry standard. This means that sets for the Accu-chek/Disetronic, Animas, Older Minimed, Cozmo, and Nipro all take the same so they are interchangable.

Sets for the Minimed Paradigm and the Dana pump are proprietary- meaning they can't be substitued with the others mentioned above, though some people have been having luck with a new brand of reservoirs that fit the Paradigm pump and can take standard sets, they aren't designed to do this.

Finally, the Omnipod is in a category of it's own for obvious reasons.

I prefer the standard ones myself- more variety.


Also, what pump do you use and why?



I went with the Cozmo:

1. It's waterproof
2. It has an attached Freestyle Flash
3. It has a huge memory
4. Takes standard sets
5. Has free software upgrades
6. I got good feelings about their customer service when I requested info online and had a huge packet of info at my door the next morning.

Funnygrl - great info! Thanks for the feedback. I really am liking the Cozmo more now. I am still holding out some hope for the Omnipod - I have a general fear of wires/tubes getting caught in something. That would be the end of things quickly!

Jedi Mark, You can also go onto the Cozmo website and chat with a person online during the day. :) They will send you out the PR packet and dvds, and you can ask them any questions you want. I'm sure that there's probably a rep in Bismarck too, so you could get that person's name and set up a meeting to get to play around with it before you decide. (You can do this with the other pump companies too, just not the online chat.)
