would it be really bad to offer yourself a treat once or twice a month say like
a couple of slices of pizza for dinner with a salad ? provided you stay on course the rest of the month.:questionm

i mean this is a lifelong deal we are faced with there has to be some carrot to shoot for. something other than low fat, low carb and fruits and veggies.
i would think it can't be that harmful once in awhile. at least it give's you the treat to look forward to. thanks borg

I allow myself to have my venti 3 pump vanilla mocha frappuccino with whipped cream once a week. :) It's well worth the 20U of Humalog I have to take for it! LOL
If you deny yourself everything, then eventually you're going to burn out and stop checking your sugars, stop taking your meds, etc. That's the point my husband has been at for a few years. I think *hope* he's finally back on track. :)

If I eat something like pizza I go walk it off for about an hour or 2. reading are always within range after. Like rikki said dont deny yourself of things just learn how to eat them.

dds, I would definitely just take a walk afterwards. You'd be amazed at how much a simple walk will bring down your sugar level. If it's not convenient, then try to do some simple stretching (yoga type) exercises in your living room...that will burn away the sugar too. :)

I think it's important not to deny yourself all the time. I haven't given up anything since diabetes. Cut back on the frequency of some things, yes. Cut portions on some things, yes. But I believe that you have to find a way to live what is a normal life for you, or you will burn out at some point.
As to walking, it's incredible for bringing down bg! My dog things diabetes is a good thing!

I would advise against it, but I realize the validity of the "prevent burnout" comments here (and the walking). BUT, test. Testing your BG after you indulge is the only way you can really see what the effect is. Then you can make an informed decision.
Also, as a T2 not on insulin, three slices of pizza at one time is worse than one slice on three occasions.

IMO, of couse it's ok!.
We cannot be/eat perfect 100 % of the time and enjoying food is a big part of enjoying life. As long as you eat in moderation, and I think 2 slices woud be, enjoy it, and then get back on track- I don't see any long term harm in it.
Take care :ciao:

I have to agree with everyone here. Burnout is inevitible. As long as you do something to counteract the effects, indulging on occasion is permittable.

I am on glipizide which raises my background insulin level and also, importantly, my post-meal insulin level. So occasionally I get a little hypoglycemic. Sometimes I choose to treat it with something yummy to eat.
Yesterday, for instance, I was sitting in a restaurant just starting on a meal that was to be a glass of milk, a lettuce & tomato salad with broiled chicken breast and sprinkles of cheese, Italian dressing. (Hold the crutons and the buttery crackers.) But I noticed myself getting trembly, my lips kind of numb, and just the beginning of a panicky feeling.
My blood glucose was 58, which is low for me, and I didn't think the meal in front of me would bring up the BG fast enough. I sent my husband out to fetch a fresh peach from the car. We had just bought them from a farmer and I really wanted one. So I used my low BG as a reason to enjoy the biggest one. Testing again later showed me that the addition of the sweet juicy peach was right on target for what I needed.
I've used cheesecake the same way! Oh heck, I've used hypoglycemia as a reason to indulge in lots of different things. :)
