Tomorrow I have an opportinuity to go to Minimed's Advanced Pumping Skills class. I really think I could learn a lot and would love to check it out. Are they educational? Would I be welcome even though I don't wear a Minimed pump?

I can't say if you would be welcome.... but that could be half the fun!

I went to the local Minimed advanced classes here in my town, and the Minimed rep that taught them was very cool and welcomed me right in; eventhough I was a Cozmo user and she knew I was the only one in the room (about 30 participants).

I found it fairly educational. She reminded me of several things and some good practical tips for doing extended and combination bolus. However, remember to memorize the different function names before you go! :D

I'm a Cozmo user (and a former Minimed user) who's attended two Minimed
sponsored classes since getting a Cozmo. I'd say you'll be welcomed based
on my experiences.

Yes, their class is based on their products, but most of the information can be adapted to use with your Cozmo. As I said, their class was based on their products, so I suppose you could call that being "pushy" but it wasn't overbearing. After all, I may become one of their customer again someday. I thought the information was useful, especially concerning using square waves and their new products.

Edited to add: I picked up a few set samples last time too. Minimed doesn't mind selling their sets to Cozmo and Animas users at all.

If I were you I'd go to it. They may be Minimed biased and may use Minimed lingo (dual wave and square bolus instead of "combo" bolus) but you could find something you don't know out of it.

I have tried to attend the Advanced Pumping Skills class locally twice. Both times all they talked about was the %@*$! Guardian system (the 522/722 weren't out yet). I was annoyed after the first class but when it was offered again I signed up. Again, they talked about the CGMS. Most of the people who were at the last class also attended that session and several started complaining, loudly, about the complete change of topic.

Everyone at the classes I've gone to have been MM pumpers or were people looking to get a pump. I'm not sure if the not-yet-pumpers were definitely going with Minimed or not. At one class there was a woman who said she also went to a group sponsored by Animas, I think, or that an Animas rep had come to talk to her support group. Not sure.

I doubt they'll ask you to leave or anything. Most likely they'll just encourage you to look at their pumps next time you're ready for one and they'll really push the CGMS capabilities.

I just got back from the class. I thought it was interesting, and it was good to talk to other pumpers. The class was small, and the instructor was a CDE who was very nice and informative. I got forms for logging the basal, meal, and correction tests on, and they weren't at all phased by the fact that I didn't have a minimed pump, other than saying they couldn't help me program it.
