I'm 24. I have not been diagnosed with diabetes. However my doctor recomended I monitor my blood sugar. I have high blood pressure, high tryglicerides.

On certain days I have checked my sugar levels 4 times a day, other times twice. I am doing this over a two week period to take into the doctor. When I wake up in the morning my sugar is between 105 and 130. This could be if I ate dinner at 6 the previous night, went to sleep at 10:30, wake up at 7, check at 8. However as the day goes on it stays between 85 & 98. In the past when the blood lab checked sugar levels it was in the 70s or 80s fasting. I dont' quite understand the whole situation, its like the doctor wants to perscribe me medication for this.

First off, a reading below 100 or between 105 and 120 2 hours after meals, aren't those normal readings. Second, would someone be able to advise me why my blood sugar may over 100 in the mornings?

Any advice would be appreciated. The doctor seems to just want to scare me. I am overweight, currently dieting and excercising daily. No history of diabetes in my family at all.

Thanks

If you are (severely) overweight then you are at possible risk of developing Type 2 diabetes (i.e. insulin resistance).

If this happens, in combination with high blood pressure and high triglycerides and overweight you would be in the high risk category for stroke and heart attack (due to furring up of the arteries with fat).

It seems to me that your doctor is being cautious and keeping a check on your sugar levels to spot any onset of diabetes because of the serious implications.

Since you are on a diet and exercise regime already you have already taken the wise steps of returning to a healthy lifestyle.

Good luck and keep up the good work. I wish you a long life :wavey:

Non-diabetics can have post-meal bg readings around 120.

The high morning bg values may be due to the Dawn Phenomena.

If you are getting up at 7, try testing straight away rather than waiting an hour. It is common for blood glucose levels to rise just after getting up in response to stress hormones. However hard you might think loosing weight is, just remember being diabetic would be a lot harder so don't even chance it.
