If your sugars are in good control...ok, mostly good control, and you give yourself a nasty steam burn about 3 inches in diameter on your arm: is there anything to watch for other then normal? I was a little stunned this morning and while putting eggs on to boil, I put my arm over the tea kettle spout which had just finished boiling. It looks rather disgusting....alot like cooked flesh. I haven't had any accidents since dxd and am just wondering if I need to be concerned out healing. Any thaughts would be great.
Thanks

I believe you should be concerned and see a doctor immediately. I was burned when a child and had to go into the doctor's office each day to have the dead skin removed. Not very fun, but I still remember how the doctor used nitroglycerine(?) to seal the broken blood vessels and how it would smoke, as well as how white my hands were while gripping the table edge while he worked on the burn. Of course it wasn't from steam but from what I understand, steam is worse than a regular burn because the steam can penetrate futher than touching something REALLY hot like I did.

Cooked flesh? Even if I were not diabetic, I would see a doctor for it! Personally, I let small injuries just heal on their own, including small, light burns. But anything I'd describe as cooked flesh would send me to a doctor. And if the injury appears to get worse in any way, I'd really consider it an emergency.

Stress can raise bg, so you may see higher numbers while healing. That's gotta hurt... :bawling:

I burned myself on the racks in my oven while baking a cake not too long ago. It was about 2 1/2 inches in length and blistered right away. I treated it with neosporin for awhile and it healed quite fast but I still have a scar. :(

Yes it does hurt. The worst thing about steam burns is that when ever you get near any type of heat it feels like it's being burnt again. I was talking to a friend who's a practical nurse and he said that it's a second degree burn. He said it will blister but other than that it should heal and behave just like any other second degree burn. I'm not sure how long they take to heal but if it doesn't look like it's healing I'll goto the docs. For now I'll just wait and see.
This has been quite the first month in our new home. I just do this and my son has just about split his head open twice....you should have seen the blood! Normally we're not that accident prone but......:hmmmm2:
