Has anyone taken high blood pressure pills for their kidneys ? I don't have high blood preasure so what will it do to me ? start in the morning on all pills... wow.. hate taking one now I have to take 3... Needs to get one of those medicine holders now maybe a timer lol.. I did start riding my bicycle tonight. half a mile.. lol. but at least I am going to start riding. Anyone want to come to texas and ride with me ?

I started taking Monopril 10 years ago. I understand the ACE inhibitors are good for the kidneys because they lower blood pressure which can damage them. I wasn't having problems with high blood pressure at the time, either.

I take Cozaar to help protect the kidneys. Also helps with hypertension.

I take 2.5 mg of Lisinopril daily. I have moderately high BP, so the ACE inhibitor serves a dual purpose.

When dx'ed in April my protein number (in urine) was 39 . My last check-up, after diet/excercise/meds the number was in the normal range of 9 . Doctor no longer concerned that I have kidney damage, but we're gonna continue to monitor every 6 months.

I take Lisinopril for my kidneys also. I don't have high blood pressure and the meds don't seem to bother me. Last report from blood work showed that I did not have protein in my urine, so the pill is working.

I also was taking Lisinopril for my kidneys but it gave me a dry cough so with my Dr. consent I stopped. He did not give me anything else to replace it yet. He said he wants to get the diabetes meds under control then he will be adding others.

I too am on lisinopril to protect my kidneys. I'm on 10 mg, and my blood pressure is 90/60! Sometimes I think it gets too low!

Thanks for telling me that. My hands have been going to sleep and hurting me for years, but I have been diabetic for 3 years and my A1c is 7.3. I alway thought after the fact that my hnds going to sleep at night was from the diabeties.

One of the great things about this forum is people don't constantly say "Do a search before you post!!!", and i firmly believe that's a good thing. However, :), this has been talked about in great detail over the past several days. Here is a thread in particular that explains about kidney's and blood pressure medicine:

I am also on Lisinopril 5mg every day for renal protection. I also take Procardia ER for hypertension (on it since 2000). My blood pressure is generally 94/62 or so laying or sitting and 104/66 standing; nothing higher. I haven't noticed any difference when I started taking the Lisinopril 6 months ago. It really didn't affect my blood pressure.

I take care of my dad who had heart failure about 3 years ago that left him
weakened on one side and unable to talk. He also has diabetes. His doctor had him on lisinopril for a couple of years, but we recently took him off because he was coughing so much. He's been off of it for about four weeks now and the coughing has almost disappeared. He was taking it for his kidneys and the doctor has yet to put him on anything else. The doctor seemed to think that he didn't need to be put on anything, but after seeing all of these informative posts, I think I'll give him another call back.

Thanks

Ken

While proactive meassures with medicine have it's pluses and minuses, generally lisinopril (or any ace inhibitor) should start to be used if you have an irragular amount of microalbumin in your urine. If you are in good shape, its probably best not to take it. If you dont exercise much, run high alot, or have high blood pressure, you should probably consider taking it pre greater than normal mAlbumin.
