Hello all,
I'm thankful for all the advice I have received from this board, Yesterday I saw my G.P and have started Diabex XR 500 and will look at increasing dosage a little later. While I realise I might not tolerate this drug I will give it my best shot. My numbers were getting higher again while taking Diamicron, my diet is really good. My DR. was not impressed with my knowing the action of these drugs and my use of the internet to inform myself but I stood my ground! I'm sure there will be additions and insulin at some stage but I want to preserve my pancreas for a bit longer but make sure my kidneys are coping.
Thank again, Meg

At 11.15 am I checked my blood 5.3(95), happy, went out to shop and felt a bit low and hungry, came home for lunch and checked before eating because of how I had been feeling and numbers had gone to 6(110).
Just wondering why they went up and not down.
Meg

It's probably because your liver started pumping out glucose in response to your feeling tired and hungry - it's supposed to do that (!). One of the effects of Metformin is to reduce this response from the liver.

A change from 5.3 to 6.0 is not really very much and is within the degree of accuracy of the measurement process.
