Had my 60 day checkup thursday. Practically had to insist that he include a A1c along with the chol. and triglyceride. (he said it wasn't needed). Anyway. last check about 90 days ago showed my hdl at 35 and my LDL at something like 140 with triglycerides over 800.
New results are total cholesterol 134, LDL 59, triglycerides 188, and my 1st A1c of 7.0.
I flat out refused to take any more of the statin drugs that he wanted me on.
One question I do have, If the A1c test measures average bg levels over a period of 90 days, then that means I have 30 days of prediagnosis highs in this first test, is that correct?

Your A1c will include your 30 days prediagnose...all it means is that is if you keep steady your next one will be lower. A first a1c of 7.0 isn't too bad you should be very happy. Keep up the good work and always insist that your doc do one rutienly, if he won't just check it off yourself.

Good A1c, btw.
Diabetes puts you at much higher risk for heart problems, that's prolly the reason he wants you on statins.
I know that's the reason I'm supposed to be on them.
But Ins. doesn't cover Rx., so choices have to be made.
"Let's see, do we leave off wife's heart meds(ventricular tachycardia) , my insulin, or statins?"

Thanks Liz!
I was hoping that was the way it worked. Keeping my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that the next one will be lower. :)

Know what you mean rzrbks.
I am self employed and currently have no insurance so everything for me is out of pocket. He never said anything about taking them for my heart, he was always ranting about the high bp, chol, and triglycerides. He had me on 40mg of lipitor and 145mg of tricor a day but I really didn't see any reductions in anything until I started my new eating habits and exercise.
Not to mention they made me feel like ****.
I forgot to add my BP was down from 140/90 60 days ago to 122/78.

Can I ask you how the statins made you feel? I am on one and really don't like it and think that my killer knee joints may be a result of taking a statin.

I had a lot of pain at times in my kidneys and my legs, especially lower legs and ankles. Also my urine was really dark all the time. Those symptoms cleared up about 95% since I stopped taking the lipitor and tricor.

7.0 is great for a first a1c! Mine certainly wasn't that good first time around. Keep up the good work!

No matter how you look at it, a first A1c of 7 is quite good. all in all, consider yourself relatively lucky.

Congratulations. :congrats:
The a1c test is more heavily weighted towards the most recent 30 days than the first 30 days.
