What does the beginnings of neuropathy feel like. My feet are itchy and burny all over tops and bottoms. I am afraid it may be the start of the loss of feelings in my feet. I am fairly well in control. A1C steady at 6.3, weight steady at 180lbs (I'm 6' tall) and get at least 1/2 mile walking every day. If this is the start of neuropathy what can I do to keep it at bay as long as I can.
Thanks

More Cardio like running instead of walking, Leg excercises with weights anything to keep up with the circulation in your legs. My feet felt like yours did before and thats what I did to get rid of it. Haven't felt that pain going on 3 years now :) If the pain doesn't go away completely doing those excersices will at least diminish some of it.

I first noticed a slight numbness in some toes.
I rode a bike for many years and never had any problems with it until I wore out a gear on the bike and couldn't afford to have it repaired. I can't be certain but I have to believe that it helped me avoid neuropathy for a long time.

Itchy burning does not sound like begining neuropathy, but everyone is different. Like Lowell, mine started with numbness in a few toes. I sometimes have painful feet on the bottoms, but mostly it is the toes and bottoms of my feet at the base of my toes.

SV,
My neuropathy started as a numb sensation on the left side of my left foot. I thought I had pulled a tendon. It progressed from there to numbness and a sense of freezing in both feet, then a feeling of numbness/freezing/burning/pain.
I think the best you can do to fight it is to get your A1c closer to normal; 5.0ish.
Also, use Google Scholar and research Benfotiamine.
