Hello! I am back. I went into a depression about the diabetes and slumped for a while. Well, got my head on straight again but now I am sick. I don't know if it is food poison or the flu. Last night was awful. I can't keep anything down or in! My sugars have been low 55, 77, 75. I just do not want to eat but know I should. I had hubby get fat free chicken broth but the tought of it makes me queasy. Any thoughts? HELP!!!

sugar-free jello?

Sugar-free jello pudding?

These are both ones I eat when sick and "Don't Want Anything."

Sugar-free Seven-Up? Tea and toast? (Add a little sugar to the tea if you are running low.) Those are my sick foods. Staying hydrated is important, even by sips. Ice cold liquid seems to stay down better for me.

Test often and don't take any fast-acting insulin, just basal, unless you eat something and/or test pretty high (you may, from the stress of being sick.)

Sleep a lot. Call your doc or CDE for advice if you feel overwhelmed. Hope you are feeling better soon. Mich

Toast and whatever you can sip and keep down. I do pretty well on sugar-free Sprite or Sierra Mist when I'm sick.

I hope you feel better soon!

If you can't keep anything down then at the very least you should take a sip of water every hour. If you can take more than a sip every hour then you should do so.

Even if you have a good and safe water supply, the water should be boiled and allowed to cool to room temperature in a covered container.

The idea of this regime is to combat dehydration and it keeps your system functioning until it can cope with solids or more nutritious drinks.

General advice when sick is to sip a high energy drink every hour of so to prevent ketosis. With your numbers that low you will need the energy too.

I agree. It is very high sugar (but that could help since you are low and not eating) but has a lot of vitamins, electrolytes, etc. that are needed especially when you aren't eating. I would try that and check often. If you can, try some crackers or toast and work your way back to "real" food.

If you can't maintain your levels you may need to get to your m.d. for an i.v.:nurse:

Best bet is to monitor very often and keep near a family member/friend.

When my grandkids are sick like that, I give them suckers and /or popsicles. The suckers seem to make them thirsty, and they want the liquid from the popsicles. This also seems to help them hold down water or juice. I hope you are much better today.

Well, I did my check this morning and it was 93! I still feel nauseus (sp) but am drinking some fat free broth and eating some crackers. I do feel a bit better. My fingers just hurt from all the pricking.
