View Full Version : Idiot of the Year award goes to ...
so this morning i sat down in front of the tv with a bowl of cereal when this i started hearing this sound. at first i thought it was the alarm clock on my sister's cell phone and it stopped in a couple of minutes. then the noise started up again. what was that stupid noise?!?! i went all over the house trying to figure out what it was. wasn't the house alarm or the smoke detector. went outside ... was it somebody else's house alarm or car alarm. one of the silliest things too was that i had just given a bolus so i was wandering around the house and outside the house eating a bowl of cereal. i finally went upstairs to wake up my sister to see if she knew what it was. so both of us are trying to figure it out what it was. i went outside again and came back in and my sister asks me "it got quieter when you went outside ... is it your pump?". it totally was! i'm such an idiot. the battery had gone completely dead. it had never made that sound before and i just put a new battery in but it was kind of old and just about dead anyways. thought it had more juice than that in it though. my sister and i had a good laugh. how could i not know that that annoying noise was coming from my hip? sometimes i wonder how i manage to get myself dressed every morning. oh well, at least i know what it sounds like when my pump completely dies. i'm such an idiot.

You aren't the only one. I've had that happen to me on occasion if I get an alarm in the middle of the night. I wake up not knowing what this beeping sound is and I walk around trying to find out what it is. Funny part is I'm very good with tracking down sounds and where they come from, and it takes me about 15 minutes to figure out why the beeping sound doesn't change volume as I move around the house. So you aren't alone in the crazyness.

Hee hee  I've had similar experiences looking for my sunglasses & then realising they were on my head...or when I searched high & low for my pen & realising I was holding it in my hand!! You are not alone, lol!!

Happens to us all.
I even had the emergency siren on my Cozmo (battery death) going off in the middle of the night--i either a) didn't hear it; or, b) disabled the message while midsleep; but when I woke up, the pumps' battery was completely dead and I had a BG of ~500.

The first time a major alarm went off on my Paradigm I had no idea what it was. It was the alarm for "auto-off", where the pump will shut itself off after X hours if you haven't pressed any buttons. I had eaten dinner one night and my BG was fine after and the next morning. I didn't eat breakfast, so I never touched the pump for at least 12 hours. I weas on the bus going to work, wishing that whoever had that annoying cell phone would answer it. Only after I had been sitting in my seat for awhile and then actually felt the pump vibrate did I realize it was me. I changed the auto-off time setting to 15 hours after that.
But, you should always use a fresh battery in the pump. I think some pumps might not even work at all if you put a used battery in.

I too have had my pump alarms go off and not know it was me. So now when I hear a beap or alarm I always check my pump. One day I kept hearing this beep. Kept checking my pump, pump wasn't showing any problems, was wondering what was wrong with it, after all it had to be me, right? finally figured out, after half a day, that my new cell phone was beeping to let me know I had a new voice mail!
