I just got on the pump last week and am still in the honeymoon stage. When I changed my set last night I knew something was wrong when my BS went up a few hours after changing the set. However I decided to wait it out. My after dinner # was 160, which is high for me right now since I am honeymooning. But by bedtime I was 106 and this morning was 94. Right before lunch I was 115. So now I decide to take out my set just to see if it is giving me insulin. And I bolus with it out of my body and nothing comes out. I use the Sure-t infusion set. I have 2 questions. 1. Why didnt' my pump tell me I wasnt getting insulin and 2. Is it that odd to be honeymooning and still have normal #'s without insulin? thanks guys

1) It takes about 2-3 units of insulin given for it to alarm for an occlusion. If you are only giving say .25 units of insulin per hour, that can be 8-12 hours.
2) That is not that odd. Giving insulin while honeymooning can actually give your body a break and let the cells replenish some. Therefore in a sense you will be "cured" however you are just giving your body the break it needs to make the honeymoon last longer.

so therefore, if i was diagnosed at 886, then my pancreas should be pretty dead?

I was 13.6 A1c(I think) and 560/31.1 (had not had anything to eat for about 6 hours) the Dr. wanted me on Avandia + both insulins for about 6 months and we were gonoing to check and see if I still needed the insulins
{{however, by that time was up to 17 units of Lantus a day and using Novolog at 1:15 ratio and b/g was stable below 100/5.5, so I wasn't about to go off the insulins}}
That is a normal plan of proceedure today, put you on insulins and meds and see if giving your pancreas a break "Jump-starts" it again.

No, that just means whatever you ate at diagnosis was too much for your pancreas to handle in producing insulin to cover.
